howdy-
wife's '99 RX has a loose left-side of course sun visor that deploys over bumps. handy if you're driving into the sun; not handy if it's dark out.
dealer wants 500 to replace, and i've tried several methods to tighten-up the roll-pin. no soap. any thoughts?

This has happened to others too. If you use the search function, I think you will find that some have inserted a piece of sandpaper to give more friction, as I recall. That's one approach, I remember correctly.

Hmmm. I must have seen it here because this is just about the only forum I read. I'm still looking, but I did find this thread from 2005, entitled "How to tighten the sun visor?".

 

There is no adjustment. Replacement is the correct fix.

velcro is what I plan to do for mine.

tried the 'search' but didn't find anything? I know replacement is the proper fix, but $500.
I'll try the sand paper fix, have also considered velcro to hold it up but am not sure how it would adhere to the fabric in time.
I tried wedging some 8 penny coated nails into the visor at the hinge point to no avail. thought about super glue, but chickened out. I'll try the samd paper and keep you posted. have to do something;wife is on it!

Jag. I have the same problem but on the passenger side, so the replacement cost is less as the home link is not there. I would not pay labor to fix it as it is can be done by any one who can handle a screwdriver *dealer charge of 1/2 hr labor $50+)

Try searching the term "visor". I am too lazy to do it for you and post it here, but the only fix seems to be is stuff things along the metal rod.

I have also contemplated a small magnet and a pin (magnet glued to the visor side). Also check on ebay.

Replace it - nothing else works (with the possible exception of the Velcro). Pop off the plastic cover on the shaft mount on the headliner, unscrew the mount and pull out the visor, unplug it from the harness in the roof cavity. 5 minutes, tops!

Installation is the reverse.

You are looking at part # 74320-48021 which includes the garge door remote buttons. It used to be available as part # 74320-48011 without the garage door buttons. I don't see it online now. You may want to give them a call. Or give IronToad a call.

 

Is this the price for the visor or the whole car?

 

I am trying this:

I purchased some Hillman plastic Push Fasteners from Lowes. I cut Velcro in a circle and stuck it to the top of the fasteners. Then, I drilled a 5/32 hole in the visor where I could see it would come closest to the headliner. Then, pushed the fastener into the hole. I then stuck the remaining fastener (inverted) on the installed fastener and pushed the visor up to mark the hole for the headliner. Then, drilled the headliner 5/32 hole at the mark and pushed the fastener up into it.

Both fasteners work perfectly and are stuck securely in their holes. The high quality Velcro seems to hold. We'll see how it works over time. Will report back.

Probably would have given a 'D' for aesthetics, if you used a tan colored velcro.

It's not clear that either of these would work for the RX300. I thought C-Stone's solution was pretty good, if the plugs don't pull out (or the headliner pulls down) over time.
