Finally called the 800 number after being unable to get past the pairing. The key pairs with my bluetooth but the process won't finish. Mentioned the database clearing idea several times as they had me do exactly what I have done before many times with no results. It was on deaf ears. After 25 minutes on the phone, removing the key, pairing the key, removing the key, restarting the car, removing from bluetooth, UGH! No results and at the end the rep told me someone from tech will call me back in the next couple of days. DAYS! One can only hope this will resolve the issue... stay tuned LOL.
Update:
Finally got a call back three days after I called 800-255-3987. The data must have been reset as I tried to connect the digital key again before they called me back. That time it worked (because they fixed it at their end). So when they finally did call me back, I was already back to using the digital key. I won't rely on it but it is nice to have considering we all only have one key fob for now. There should be a user available way to request a reset at their end until they figure out how to prevent this from happening. As a recap, my DK worked (mostly) for a couple of months then it stopped. I removed the DK from the car and tried to re-install and enable and it kept crashing after pairing. Thanks to some previous comments here, I knew I had to call. Hope it continues to work...
I bought my new RX350 today and the tech guy that was showing me how to work everything suggested I not set up the digital key because he personally didn't feel Lexus had thought that service out properly. I have seen other threads on here about people having issues after a while of it working correctly, and then it just stop working. He said he even had a customer set it up and then it cancelled out they're key fob. Should I just wait on setting it up? Any suggestions? Thanks!
I can't comment about the profiles. The key app itself works fine under app button control. If you want to use the proximity features - it periodically asks to redownload the key. That's the only issue I have with it. But personally I think, given we all have just one FOB, that having a functioning app even without the proximity features, is worth something.
As others have, I notice from time to time the Lexus app displays a "Download" button next to the digital key.
I have never pressed it, but later when I go into the app, the key is back.
It looks like the re-download is part of a key rotation strategy as a security mechanism.
It also looks like the re-download will happen in the background, without manually pressing the Download button.
My spouse and I have separate profiles. We have the car configured to recognize us by facial recognition, instead of the key.
I try to remember to lock/unlock the car when switching drivers to prompt the car to re-check for the driver.
It also looks like the re-download will happen in the background, without manually pressing the Download button.
Too bad this means you're locked out of the keyless (un)lock and drive functions until you either manually download or wait some unknown amount of time for it to download itself.
This is my #1 frustration with digital key.
I often have to pull my phone out of my pocket, launch the app, and download a key, which takes anywhere from 30-120 seconds. It defeats the purpose of keyless entry, in my mind. And if I ever find myself outside of cell service then forget about it -- can't download the key, so you're stranded.
Frankly, even with the FOB, I find myself rarely using the proximity feature to open just with the handle touch. Force of habit always has me clicking the FOB.
My digital key is still working but now it is taking longer to work. today It took about 15 seconds to unlock car. when I got inside I thought it would work right away since I just used it but it took another 10-15 seconds to start car.
I have the Lexus app downloaded and I clicked to download the digital key. Then I followed all the steps and just after I hold my key fob to the start button and I hear the two beeps I hit pair when it pops up then I get this message. It happens each time I try and Bluetooth is connected. Anyone else have this issue and know what might be wrong? Thanks!
Hello ... newbie here (as in, I am new to owning/driving a Lexus). As I research the "Digital Key" (trying to deal with the "one key fob" issue), I am stumped by the fact that I cannot even for any "Digital Key" function on the Lexus mobile app. I am on iOS and I verified that I am using the latest version of the Lexus app as of this post. I am attaching a screenshot of the Lexus mobile app as I see it, showing that there is no "Digital Key" element on the screen. Can any one advise what I am missing here? Lexus mobile app screenshot - no "digital key"
The digital key is a $250.00 option. If the car was not built with the digital key, then it is not an option. FYI, I have the digital key and it is very unreliable. If you car did not come with this option, you are not missing anything of value.
Oh well, since I do not see "Digital Key" specifically called out in any of my car's paperwork, I suppose it does not come with that option and I will stop trying to figure out the "Digital Key." Thanks!
