Default RX350: A popular luxury appliance that's due for an update

Hopefully the redesign that is supposedly coming on the 2023 model can make the RX more competitive in the future. While it’s dependably can be touted by many, including myself, it cannot continue to stand on its laurels while others are passing them by. This Car and Driver article pretty much says it all. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...-awd-compared/

I like my 2020 RX450h just the way it is. YMMV The Genesis dash is not appealing to me at all.

That is a bit of a strange comparison anyway....two sport oriented models vs an appearance package model.

I would agree that the RX comes in third if I wanted 350+ hp turbo with horrible gas mileage with low reliability. I will take the tested V6, non turbo, dual injection system that gets me 23 mpg on regular and is sure to last 250,000 miles. But that is just me (and everyone else on this forum). Now maybe if Lexus wanted to compete they could add a true performance version of the RX (like Acura S line up).

But 5600 lb. cars don't call for a 4 cyl. engine, turbo or not. You need a V6 or a V8 to move that kind of weight down the road with acceleration and torque. IMHO.
You’re right. The 4 cylinder engine is very anemic when it’s installed in. 5,600 lb vehicle. I see a lot of jabronis who buy this vehicle having a lot of problems with it. Lexus needs to keep the V6 engine alive or else they’re going to regret it.

I agree but doubt you'll have the V6 option with the next gen RX.

I know...that is why I purchased in 2020. We just got a 4Runner for the same reason. Not a fan of the turbo 4 in a larger vehicle for the long term.

Most of the RX competitors have a base 4 cyl, but you can get a 6 cyl as an upgrade. Hopefully Lexus understands this. Mags and reviews are real good at pointing out how a vehicle is .5 second slower, handling, how it sounds, etc., but when it comes to a luxury SUV I believe what is wanted is comfort, room, and ease of use. I'm on my 3rd RX and had tested many competitors, i.e., BMW X3/x5, MB E350, Audi Q5/Q7. I found the RX to be best for comfort for 4 people, being able to on occasion haul building/home supplies, and doing it all in comfort, and decent gas mileage on regular gas. As an aside, I find it interesting that some consider X3/Q5/GLC as competitors as I find them much smaller. The RX seems to straddle between these and the X5/Q7/GLE models. And in seeing how these vehicles are used, I don't believe the 3rd row is truly an issue for most users. Personally, I would like to see a 3rd row delete on the larger vehicles as I need that space more for storage and hauling than people...

Hi. I know it's impossible to know the accurate date, but being that there are no pictures nor any information about how the actual new RX will be, do you think they will launch maybe at 2023 fall? Do you think they will release earlier in 2022? Thanks!

They certainly COULD drop the "spindle" design, front and rear. Not sure what would make that a good idea, though.

Thank you for the info. I had a '20 Lexus NX F-SPORT 300H and I really loved it. Last year, I bought my wife a BMW X5 and being that I was not very thrilled at the new NX and because it was very scarce in my country, the BMW dealer offered me a good deal and I bought a BMW X4 3.0i. The car is nice, sure, but, believe it or not, I find my NX sportier than my X4. The X4 does have much, much power, but the driving feeling is not as sporty as the NX. The steering wheel of the NX was very nice. Anyways, I was thinking about buying a new RX but now that I see the forthcoming RX is almost a fact for 2023, I just found a very low mileage '20 RX 450H F-Sport, so I think I'm going to buy it, sell my X4 and then wait next year for the new RX. What I want to say is that even though I had BMWs before and even a Porsche Macan S, I rather be back to the Lexus family. My wife's X5 is very nice, a great ride, but for me, I'll keep the Lexus. Lexus might not have the image of a super sporty brand but I love the driving feeling and the luxury and amenities is way superior to equivalent priced BMWs.

P.S. I don't live in the US.

I am now confirmed to be on list for RZ
