Question Tire Pressure Warning

Last week, my tire pressure warning light came on. I checked the Tire Pressure display in the Infotainment system and it showed the Left Rear at 29 lbs and the other 3 tires at 33 lbs. The tire looked OK but I put air in it anyway. I put it at 35 lbs (according to my digital gauge). When I checked the Infotainment Center Display, it still showed 29 lbs. I turned the car off, and restarted it. I then went for a drive to warm up the tires. The display still shows 29 lbs.

Is my Infotainment System display wrong or is my digital gauge wrong? I don't want to try to get into a tire shop over the holidays, just to check air pressure. Any suggestions? Anyone else ever have a similar problem?

I have noted that it takes several miles of driving (5 or more, and 15 minutes of time) for the MMI display to update.

You could compare/calibrate the car's PSI readings on the other three tires, to your gauge.

In case you have a leak, it might be worthy to over inflate your tires a couple PSI. That will provide more time before the lack of air needs to be investigated.

PS: Perhaps you should 'air up' your spare, as well? (Unless you don't have one)

Your idea to "calibrate my gauge, with the other 3 tires, is sound. Why didn't I think of that.

BTW, I have one of those compact spares and it is right on 65psi, as it should be.

Thanks for your thoughtful response.

I am sure that you are not as cold in your location as it is here in AK, but I have been having erroneous tire PSI readings on the MMI as well- for the first time.

I have gotten a low tire pressure warning for the last two mornings (around -10*F outside temp) on the same tire (27 PSI). Digital gauge shows it at 34 PSI cold. The real strange thing to me is as soon as I travel less than 1/2 a block, the MMI updates and shows the correct pressures on all 4 tires and the warning goes away for the rest of the day. As @Carbuff2 stated, the update normally takes a few miles/minutes of driving.

This warning comes just after changing out the OEM battery (see the Dead 12v Battery Incident thread) but also during the longest and coldest temperatures that this vehicle has seen. So I am not sure the cause for this, but I suspect and hope that it is just the cold temperatures.

The bottom line, for me, is to trust the digital gauge. Yes, it is an electrical instrument like the RX's information display, but I trust it.

@madmax24 Probably just a coincidence, but the erroneous display for me was also the left rear.

My tire pressure warning system appears to respond rapidly. In fact, I use it to monitor tire pressure as I'm filling up the tires.

Lucky you, to be living in Alaska. We have taken 4 Alaskan cruises. We love AK. I am in sunny Charleston, SC, where it will be almost 70 degrees on Christmas day. It has been in the 20s a couple of times. My TP light goes out after 10-15 minutes of driving. It appears to be more of a nuisance than a real problem. This 2023 RX seems to be saddled with problems...something I never experienced with my 2007, 2014 and 2016 RXes. Even with problems, it is still a great car.

Same here. I leave car running at Costco fillup station and monitor the PSI as I fill the tires. I also had one drop to 29 from 34 when temp was in the 20's

During a cold snap (cold for SE Texas), our tire pressure warning light came on. One tire read 29 psi on both the car’s system and the digital gauge. The others read 31 psi. I added a little air to the low tire. After a few minutes drive, the system reset.
Maybe 30 psi is the trigger limit?

I keep them at 33 now.

I noticed a screw in my tire a few months ago.

It took ~ 15 miles for the TPMS light to come on...at that point it was at ~24 PSI.

maybe it's just a coincidence, but after I fill the low tire(s) I turn the car, re-start it, the symbol is gone. No waiting...

Ugh, I hate that discovery. Thankfully doesn't happen too often. Full disclosure I also hate the Bridgestones (at least on the wife's UX). But that's a conv for another thread...
