Default Remote Start Function

I tried the remote start, using the Lexus App on my Galaxy 24 phone, over the weekend. The "Lock and Unlock" functions worked fine. The "Start" would show the little progress bar moving to what I estimate to be about 80%. It would stop there and the car didn't attempt to start. I tried several times but the same result every time. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? I plan to uninstall the app and reinstall.

I have a 2023 RX Luxury-Nori Green

Do you have an active Remote Connect subscription? I assume that since you are able to lock and unlock you do, but just thought I'd ask. Also, try logging out and back into the app before you go through the trouble of deleting and reinstalling it. I'd also try starting it with the key fob and see if that works to confirm it's an issue with the app.

I recently had the same problem and even though the app said my door was locked, it wasn’t! I unlocked and locked again and it worked fine then.

There are a couple of ways to lock a Lexus. Best is to just touch the outside door handle
with the key fob nearby. Also good is to press the "Lock" button on the key fob. Either way
will: lock the doors, set the alarm, fold the mirrors (if equipped and enabled) and inform the
Lexus App that the doors are locked. If you lock the car using the inside driver's door "lock"
button, you will lock the car, but the Lexus App won't know (and the mirrors won't fold).
What error message are you seeing when the Remote Start fails?

The fact that the App Lock and Unlock work means you are getting communication with the
car, App should show current miles and location. The Start function is necessarily more
controlled than simple Lock/Unlock. If the Check Engine Light (CEL) is on, the low fuel light
is on, the second key fob is in the car, hood or doors ajar...won't remote start from the App.

Make sure doors are locked or it won’t remote start.

Like you, I presume my Remote Connect subscription is still active since the Lock function on the App still works. I will try logging out and back in. As you said, deleting and reinstalling the app is trouble.

I did NOT know that one can start the vehicle with the key fob. How do I do that? My fob only has buttons for "lock," "Unlock," "Rear Hatch Open/Close" and "Panic."

Hit the lock button three times, on the third hit do not let go for an inordinate amount of time. The blinkers will flash like 3 times, the engine will start, and then you can let go and the blinkers will flash like another 5 times. It's a ridiculous process and the remote transmitting range pretty much guarantees you'll be at the car the moment the engine starts

I never understood why Lexus did not have a separate start on the remote like every other car I've ever owned.

Because doing it this way allows them to tie the feature into the Remote Connect subscription rather than having it be a standalone function. Whether you start it with the fob or the app, it's still routed through the car's connected system and requires an active subscription. If your Remote Connect subscription lapses, both ways of remote starting the car (fob or app) no longer function.

You sure about that? Remote start from the fob uses 433 mHz (or 315 depending on region), not wifi.

Part of that reads :
Can I remote start my vehicle using my key fob?

Yes, you can start your vehicle by using your key fob as long as the following conditions* are met:
  • Vehicle is compatible with Lexus Remote services
  • Active trial or paid subscription to Safety Connect, Remote, or Destination Assist
  • Your Lexus is in an area with proper ventilation prior to Remote Start
  • Vehicle is not occupied by a child
  • The vehicle is locked, in Park, and all doors, trunk, hood, and moonroof closed
  • Vehicle is visible and within 80-foot range
  • Fuel level is above ¼ tank
Whether from the fob or app, it all goes through the DCM, so it can check your subscription status before executing the command.

I think that is not correct on their web page. NX folks can do it as I recall without an active sub. Someone on here can check that real soon though since the first gen5 RXs are coming up to the end of year 3 on the road.

Well if true, that is absolute Bolshevik! I'll just use my LilyGo emulator on the rare times we use remote start. To have to pay to use such a simple feature is unconscionable.

From the Toyota side of the house. A bit dated but goes along with the comments I've see in other forums.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/43329/...iption-service

This is from a Toyota dealer in VA and it's from 7 months ago that basically states that as long as you had Remote Connect, even when it expires the Safety Connect 10 year trial will still allow remote start to work from the fob. This is a confusing topic to say the least.
