Default Front and Rear Bumper Warning Buzzers

As the vehicle is been parked, there is a proximity warning tone generated as the vehicle get closer to objects (a post, an ADA parking sign, shopping cart, etc.), eventually becoming a solid tone as the vehicle becomes really close to the object. I appreciate this part of the parking warning features. When I place the vehicle into Park, the proximity warning tone stops.
Some time later, I come back to the vehicle, press start, and then select "R" to back out (if I pulled in forward), or : to pull forward (if I backed in).
The proximity warning immediately starts 'blaring' and the LCD screen is reporting the object that is now in the opposite direction to which I will be traveling, as being the offending near object.
This makes absolutely no sense to me.
- If the vehicle is going to be traveling forward "D" - Why is an object positioned at the rear of the vehicle causing the proximity warning to sound ?
- If the vehicle is going to be traveling backward "R", Why is an object positioned at the front of the vehicle causing the proximity warning to sound ?

Is there a setting in the configuration menus to change the proximity warning operation related to detection of items in the opposite direction of travel ?
To be clear, I am not asking how to totally disable the proximity warning feature. Just to stop what I consider idiotic behavior.

I know what you mean. I think the sensors flag the object regardless of what direction you're heading in.

I think it is fine. What if you are reversing and swing the front end wide?

I appreciate the reply, however I perceive you may not have picked up on the nuances of my description as clearly as I intended.
I should have been a little clearer and indicated the vehicle is in a parking space as one would encounter at a grocery store and other public parking.
Public parking spaces lack sufficient width to swing the vehicle wide. Also, the objectionable object is directly in alignment with the front or rear of the vehicle based upon my choice of backing in or pulling in normally.

I'll ask again,
(1) is there vehicle configuration setting I can learn about that will counteract this behavior, or
(2) is there something the service department can do to reconcile this behavior?

I appreciate everyone's input,

No, it's just the way it is. I personally don't mind it since it at least tells you the direction of the object and it's nice to know anything that is close to the vehicle at any time, from any direction. For example if I am stopped at a light and in D, it would be nice to know if a vehicle or object is creeping very close to me from the rear.

Other vehicles I have from different brands do this as well.

No, there is no option in Settings to do what you are asking and I highly doubt the service department could alter it either.

There IS a 'mute' button on the screen if you can't tolerate hearing the alarm for a minute while you leave the parking space.

+++++++++

The Lexus system is quite 'pro-active'. Turning the steering wheel so that the car thinks it will swing wide, sets it off when entering/backing out of our garage. I've learned to set up my 'departure angle' to reduce having to turn the steering wheel.

On our past cars, I would just guide the car so that the driver's mirror missed the garage door by an inch. The RX does NOT like this strategy!

Can't change the car's behaviour, but you can change yours. Frankly, I would rather have more alarms than less.

I appreciate the early responses. A big Thumps-Up to Carbuff2, for mentioning a Mute button appearing on the screen. I'll have to watch for that next time.

If there are any manufactures representatives monitoring post to the forum, there is a simple solution,

Currently, the existing software already suppresses/ignores proximity sensor detection conditions when the vehicle is in 'P'.
So it's only an extension of the existing function to incorporate a software change as basic as;
If 'Shifter' equals 'D', then suppress/ignore Rear proximity warnings.
If 'Shifter' equals 'R', then suppress/ignore Front proximity warnings.
Additionally, in the Settings Menus, a selection could be provided to the operator to select 'Suppress Opposite Direction Proximity Sensors warnings'

One thing I have noticed is that the 2025s have more sensors especially on the sides, rather than just the front/rear end.
