Default Engine Noise - RX 350h vs NX 350h

I have a 2024 NX 350h which I love - except for the engine sound when accelerating between 20 and 40 mph. I'm thinking of trading in the NX for RX since the RX has more HP - would that help "soften" the noice I hear when I accelerate the NX?

It might help, or you could be trading off one noise for another as indicated on threads below:

But, of course — Do what’s best for you and your needs, expectations for a car.

They both use the same engine so I'm not sure it will be any better. I have gotten use to the noise and its quiet while cruising on the highway so it doesn't bother me personally. The RX350h is rated at 246 HP and the NX350h is rated at 240 HP total. Given the RX's higher weight, I don't think you will get any "noise softening". The RX may ride a little quieter since the NX uses run flat tires.

This is very helpful so thank you, I've already replaced the run flats with non-run flats and that helped the road noise, probably causing me to focus more on the engine noise.

I can answer that - yes the RX 350h is quieter than the NX 350h under acceleration between 20-40 mph. I had a 2025 NX 350h Luxury and traded it in at 4K miles for my current RX 350h Luxury. Even though the RX uses the same drivetrain I believe it also has a higher level of sound insulation and is overall much more upscale than the NX. Test drive a new RX 350h and decide for yourself.

Thank you! I feel bad about wanting to trade in my NX so soon because of the financial hit so I appreciate hearing others have done the same. I drove the RX 350h about two weeks ago and loved it - it definitely seemed quieter with smoother accelerations. The main problem is that I no longer trust myself to hear/notice things during test drives - I have to go out of town to a large city with lots of nearby traffic to test drive a Lexus. I never heard the noise in the NX until after I bought it and got it back to my smaller city that has less noise and traffic. At this point, I probably trust random strangers on the internet more than my ears LOL!

I know exactly what you are saying. Yes I took a hit on the trade like with any other trade but it was a number I could live with, in part thanks to Lexus's better resale value, so I just wrote out the check and called it a day and not going to worry about it. It's not going to make a difference to me anyway. At my age now I just don't want to shortchange myself with anything. If I like it and want it I'll buy it. It's only money. My g/f drives a Cadillac XT5 and she likes the RX over the NX too. There are a couple of design features the RX has that the NX doesn't that I like including a redesign for 2025 of the center display instrument cluster. I am liking my new RX 350h and I think you will also. Enjoy life.

I agree - we had test drove the NX before purchasing the RX and the NX was definitely more buzzy on hard acceleration.

While I didn't test-drive the non-plugin hybrids, I did test drive both the NX450H+ and RX450H+ - and found the latter much quieter, which I attribute to better sound insulation.
