Default Power Trunk Stuck Shut AGAIN

Hello fellow CL members,

I have a 2023 RX350 F sport and now for the second time my rear tail gate is stuck shut. It went in around the 7k mile mark when it happened the first time. Local dealer had it for 3 days and said they had to replace the lock/ latching mechanism. I'm now at 10k miles and the trunk will just beep but wont open no matter what I do. Will be taking it in tomorrow morning but curious if anyone else has dealt with this?

Honestly very disappointed with the 5th gen RX350. This is my 4th Lexus and now my last. I also have a hesitation issue and the 4 cylinder turbo engine is a total downgrade. Very loud and seems underpowered compared to the V6 in my 2017 RX350.

Do our Lexus' have a button in the glove box to disable the rear hatch? My Rav4 did and my wife always bumped it and I had to show her once again what not to do with it.

I totally forgot about that. I’ll check and report back. Thanks!

I am not sure if you tried the fob or the interior button or both.

On the main display, going into vehicle settings, there is an option to disable the rear hatch. That might have gotten set by accident. No switch in the glovebox that I am aware of.

However, an easy way to check is to push the interior hatch button as below to se if you get the message, if not you may at least get a message related to the beeping which may help identify the issue.

From the manual...

 Suggestion to enable the power back door

If the power back door system is disabled (setting on the center display set to off) and the power back door switch on the instrument panel is operated, a suggestion message will be displayed asking if you wish to enable the power back door system.

To enable the power back door system, select “YES”.

After enabling the power back door system, press the power back door switch again to open or close the power back door.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I checked and all is enabled to open the hatch. The service advisor also checked everything including the settings. They have me in a loaner and now trying to figure out why it’s locked up again for the second time.

Just a suggestion.

I've had the rubber seals on doors and hatchbacks get sticky. Then, the hatch won't release even though the latch disengages.

I clean the rubber with plain water, then put a bit of talcum powder on my fingers, and rub THAT onto the seal. Works great!

You should be using silicone spray on rubber seals.

Just wanted to share an update. Picked up the RX this past Friday. They replaced the lock/ latch for a second time. So far it’s functioning like normal. I pray it stays that way.

It is claimed that silicone leaves a film that attracts dust.

I DO use silicone on suspension components (bushings, etc)
