Default Best locate security device

My insurance is asking me to install one of their approved geo locate device or immobilizer on my RX350 or they will double my insurance premium.
The previous owner installed Compustar Pro R5 however it is not on the insurance’s approved list.

I figured it is probably cheaper to install geo locate device vs installing another immobilizer.

Which one of these geo locate devices is the best overall?

What kind of insurance do you have that the factory immobilizer isn't good enough?

Don't know what year OPs car is but maybe it has to do with this post: Stealing A Lexus RX In Under 2 Minutes

They're easily bypassed the factory immobilizer.

good article in the NY Times today about rampant auto thefts in Toronto......the problem has been around for a long time, but some measures being taken in Montreal are moving a lot of the action westward...I always take my oldest car to Montreal, lest it be in a shipping container on a cargo ship an hour later.

In ONT lot of insurance companies seem to push TAG. they will also pay for it and its installed by Speedy Auto glass (Thats where my buddy got it installed). they will also etch the front windows. these locates are only useful after the car is stolen. best to install an anti theft device in addition to this. I have the IGLA.

Had my RX/22 stolen twice. First time was tracked and recovered, with a $10,000 dealer repair bill. They destroyed the interior to get to the GPS board and broke it. Waited 4.5 months to get my RX back. The GPS board was on back order.

The second time was 2 days after I picked it up from the dealer. I believe they put a tracker on the RX and claimed it, never to be found. The RX 23/24 does not have the CAN BUS vulnerability, I left mine OEM.

My advice spend the money and get an immobilizer to prevent the theft. Finding the RX will leave you with a Carfax report that will depreciate the value of your RX far greater.

Stolen twice?!? Where is your location?

I have Compustar immobilizer but it uses fob just like OEM. So I am getting Starline immobilizer (using PIN) and also TAG recovery tracking system.

Our insurance presented the same request. We ended up with Tag after all was said and done. We too realized it wasn't antitheft per se but it is what it is. I will add that my insurance paid fully for this, and it was the upper limit of what they would re-imburse. If they had paid for the immobilizer, I would have gone this route. Everyone's situation is silently different (cask flow, city they live in, is the vehicle secure over night etc. ).

Must have some fairly sophisticated car theives in Canada. Not that it couldn't happen anywhere in the world.

I was arranging to get the Starline in Marham, they got to the RX before I can get it installed. It’s a nice system, you get car a car alarm with the immobilizer.

smart man - whenever i'm at coffee shops (starbucks) not boycotting hehehe i tell people about IGLA if i see they own a RX. i become IGLA's brand spokesperson because it is such a great device - i wish someone told me before my 21'RX was stolen. I try telling as much people as I can just so they don't have to be in the same distressed state i was last year - i was gonna give up on the LEXUS brand but this IGLA is the one that kept me loyal. Sadly one of my coworkers 21'RX was stolen back in November - I advised her and her husband of it but she thought it won't happen to her. Now she wishes she installed it just to save her car - prevention is better than cure!

I had it installed after it was stolen last year and 2 times thieves have tried to steal it but failed - middle finger to these low lifes! - they will still break your left headlight liner but i dont care as long as my car is there

Stay safe and God bless!

it is crazy how many people have experienced the same scenario including myself! I know friends, family, and colleagues that had their RX or Highlander stolen!

i made myself a plastic coated sign which says car cannot be put into drive as it has IGLA. i place it on the dash if i am at a mall etc hoping the bums would notice it and not even try and break the headlight.
