In the previous model the fob remote expired as well. Not this case with the new gen?

We don't actually know yet I guess. No reason they should with the fob since it doesn't require access to the cell network but greed with crappy subscriptions.

I asked our dealer's tech guy about fob vs app. He said that I'd need to be close to the car to use the fob (Bluetooth or equiv?) but that the app uses cellular connection so I could be in the store and car across the parking lot.....which is what I am used to doing with an aftermarket system on my old vehicle. I don't like the idea of paying monthly after 3-years, but I paid quite a bit up front to get the aftermarket auto start so I suppose it's not all that unreasonable.

Step #3 is a bit odd, as it does take a good 10 seconds before engine starts. In other remote start cars I've had, it is instantaneous. Thanks for the tip @Urlik I had no idea!

for me no way. I gave up the app for my ES amd just use the fob now. Will do the same with the RX once the free period expires.

This is brilliant. Thank you very much. Have had my 2023 RX350h for about 10 months and always grumbled that I couldn't use the fob to remote start. Just tried your process and it worked just fine. I wasn't sure how to turn it off via the fob but I held the lock button for a couple of seconds and it did turn it off but the car jumped, just a tad. That was kind of weird. Thanks again..!

EDIT: This reply was meant for Urlik #9. Not sure what I did wrong on this.

We had the same complaint...turns out the timing of the key-presses is KEY.

The dealer's Tech Specialist walked out and started the RX right up!

How close do you need to be to the vehicle to start it with the fob?

I'm guessing ten to twenty feet or so.

That's what I was afraid of. That eliminates much of the benefit of having remote start. I'll be using the app during the "trial" period and paying for it beyond that time.

not for me - I've been using it that way since we bought our 2017 RX. Of course, you can't start it from across the country😆

I'm more interested in across the parking lot from inside the store.....big deal here in some climates.

I get it - can be too far in your case. I mainly use it either from my office where car is within range or my home when car is right outside.

The fob range is around '80 depending on obstacles (lead or kryptonite). Free as long as any subscription Or Trial is in place.
The Service Connect Trial is 120 months and reports CEL and Oil Change and Tire Pressure readings to Lexus. Lexus in turn
notifies the registered driver and the preferred Dealer of record. When a Lexus is sold the subsequent owners can have the
free Fob Remote Start for the balance of the 10 years from 1st use date but they must register using the Lexus App. This is
different from any and all owner information that was involved in the purchase documents, Certified Pre-Owned, license and title.

Download the Lexus App and Register. If using a cell phone number, the authorization ping back will be a text.
If using an E-Mail to register, the authorization ping back will be an E-Mail. Once registered you may begin using the fob
by applying the Three (3) Press cadence noted above.

If desired but not mandatory for the fob function, you may touch the Lexus App's "Shop" tab and select and pay for the
"Safety Connect" for $8/month or $80/year plus the "Enform Remote" for another $8/month or $80/year. You will then
have the Car Finder, Route Tracing, Remote Lock/Unlock/Start, Service History, Dealer Contact/Appointment, Status Monitor.
While we don't subscribe month to month it might suit if you just want the Remote Start in the cold months.

A couple of other available subscriptions are unlikely to be worthwhile. Destination Assist is for a very nice but largely unneeded
live operator to help with Navigation entries. Unless you are an Uber Driver with a flip phone this would be wasted money. The
other is the Dynamic Navigation (2023's and newer). Unneeded if you are using Apple Car Play/Android Auto.
