The only time I see a split screen is when using Android Auto and it is automatic. For example, if you are using Google maps or Waze, that will show up and a split smaller window could be your audio feed. If you press on the Google maps icon while it is in split screen, it will go to full screen. All the spilt screen functions in Android Auto are mostly automatic with the ability to go full screen until you select another app.
Thanks 2020 Rx used to have the option and it was quite helpful. Kinda suck with 14" screen when you can only look at the Map every time.
Lexus purposely chose to not allow split screen in their new multimedia system. Supremely stupid, especially with a 14” screen. Fortunately AA and CarPlay support it.
AA and Carplay is my preferred way of integrating with my phone. I have so many other apps that fint under those banners, having to figure them out via Hey Lexus would be a PITA.
Using AA split screen is nice if you want to see an audio source other than from the car but if you want to be able to see the radio or XM from the car you can't. When they designed this system they saw that big 14 inch screen and opted to have only 1 source there and will probably never change.

Recently read an upcoming Android Auto update will be the ability to choose what apps you want to show as opposed to always having Google maps as one of the defaults. We use navigation about 10% of the time. Love to have at start up podcast and XM as the two apps displayed.
