Well, I'm not gonna waste my time on this. Will use my phone app for a dashcam.

Software/app downloaded to phone and it works as expected and will download from the camera. It is done.

Will you share pics and your final verdict ?

@ggebhardt ...you said above you paid $475 plus tax... Was that for both the device and delivery? If so, would you mind looking at your receipt and provide what the cost of the unit was as well as the labor costs.

I've been talking to my dealership which we all know are very different in both parts pricing, as well as labor... especially in Southern California and they're getting darn near $680 for it.

Where did you get the camera and install done?

Thanks

I wish Lexus made a dual mode camera. I was torn. The Lexus camera looks very "clean" installed, no wires, suction cups etc and has a 12 month warranty from Lexus if they do the install. There are better cameras out there. The Lexus main con is its only 1080p and only front facing. They make 4K dual or triple cameras (front view, rear view, and inside car view) that give a much better picture but are not as "clean" looking inside the car. The Lexus picture is ok but a 4k camera would show greater detail (you could read a license plate # much easier).

I am sorry but not allowed to disclose. I should have not even posted what I paid

?? to be clear is it against forum policy? You would think places would like free advertising but if its not allowed where are those rules?

‘The reason not saying is I promised the dealership I would not advertise the price as I suspect they will be charging more in the future. I have bought 18 Lexus vehicles from this dealer, they helped me get my 350h. They also told me that the wiring harness does not allow installation on the driver side.

Thanks @ggebhardt ..you really helped me and the photo showing it installed was great... your secondary comment saying that the dealer could only install it on the passenger side also starts to provide clarification, as it seems most other people are being told that too.. so that must be the case. Again thanks very much

I think the shield would be ok since most would lay on top of the camera and be held in place by the visor.

Default Went with the FiTCAMX

Originally went with the Vantrue N4 based on Wirecutter's recommendation and the fact that I have the N2 in my Atlas. The windshield however is much smaller than the Atlas and after trying three different spots for the N4, I couldn't find an optimal spot that didn't obstruct the driver's view (this is my father-in-law's car so I def. wanted to make sure he could see out of as much of the windshield as possible). The fact that the power cord now went in from the top vs how the N2 used to lock to the left caused the camera to hang even lower than I'd like.

So via this thread, I discovered the FiTCAMX and gave it a shot. I ordered it on the 20th of May, the seller messaged me on the 21st asking for photographs of the current mirror/camera cover to confirm model which I provided the same day. Originally the estimated delivery was in early June but surprisingly got the camera by 5/25. The camera was shipped all the way from Dongguan China.

I'd say the install is much simpler due to the mirror tap. Took about 20 min. would've been quicker if I wasn't being so delicate and figuring out the mounting points. I'd estimate that if I had to do a second install I'd be done in 10 minutes. If using a regular fuse panel tap, I would've had to remove some trim pieces and route the wire around the airbags, etc. Didn't have to deal with any of that and figuring out which fuse to tap, etc. Did this with the Atlas and the Vantrue N2 and that install probably took twice the amount of time due to the extra steps.

My Amazon review based on the install and early usage:

I have a Vantrue installed in my other car and initially went with the same model for the RX. However, due to the smaller windshield on the RX, I found the camera way more distracting in the RX vs our VW Atlas.

Packaging was great. Video tutorial was good enough but missing crucial steps. Some items to consider:
1) Video was for NX install, RX has different trim pieces. Note the photos of the smaller trim piece and where the connection points are. You'll want to apply pressure to pop those connection points to take that off first.
2) To slide the larger cover off takes quite a bit of force. Also helpful again to see where the connection points are on the photos or existing piece. Steady but forceful.
3) You'll want to remove the zip tie and some electrical tape to unbundle some of the wires. This will make it a lot easier to stuff the new dongle in place and have everything fit within the new cover piece.
4) The smaller piece you snap on to finish the install will need the center portion popped off. I think this is for just the digital rearview mirrors. Unsure. So don't pop it off until your test fit fails.

Physical finished product looks good enough and the camera is out of the way. Mobile app is okay. It's flaky and the video feed gets corrupted often on the app. Assume the video is recording fine on the SD card. Note though that the video on the mobile app looks a bit stretched horizontally.

OEM above, FiTCAMX below, note you'll have to pop out the smaller inset piece if you have the digital rearview camera. Unsure if it stays in place for regular rearview cameras. Also note the connection points, it's important for you to target these errors when dismantling the OEM cover.

You'll want to remove the ziptie and some of the electrical tape to unbundle wires and thread the new dongle in place to fit within the tight compartment.

Has anyone in Southern California got the factory integrated dash cam installed through the dealer? I just called the 2 dealers closest to me and the labor for the install was quoted as 4-5 hours for a total of $1200, not including parts (another $350ish), which seems crazy. Everyone else here has posted an install cost of around $180. I'm tempted to just purchase the parts and install myself.

You need to call around...as all have different labor rates as well as parts costs.... It surprised me the difference each one had... Where have you tried so far here in Socal?
