Front Window Film with HUD
I'm considering getting a film over my front windshield. I have a black interior RX450h and I live in California where we frequently see hot summer days well over 100 degrees. My questions are
1) does anyone else have a front windshield film, and if so do you notice a big difference in heat reduction?
2) does the film distort the HUD reflection at all?
It's seems like on the one hand it could improve the reflection (enable to be viewed with polarized glasses). But on the other hand it could slightly distort the reflection.
Thanks for the advice.

Hi, we have a 2017 RX350 with Llumar Air (can't remember if it's 80 or 90) on the windshield so I can help you out here.
1) yes we do see a reduction in heat and in glare, not sure how much but our perception is that it helps.
2) We have a hud and it's totally unaffected by the film
The film does not make the hud visible with polarized glasses, you will need to get regular lenses.

I have never been happy enough with these tinted films to put them on the windshield. Hope they have improved them in the last few years.

So it's legal for you guys to put tint on the windscreen in the US?

I don't think its legal in any state in USA, but most of the windshield tints let in approximately 90% of the light so you can't tell its on there...
Also, you can ask your tint guy for a scrap piece of the tint he plans on using on the windshield and you can place it where the HUD will be to see if you're happy with the performance or not.

I have a 2016 RX 350 with front windshield film. I do notice a reduction in both heat and glare. It's a lot more comfortable year round. Also the HUD was not affected.

The police used to ticket you if you failed their tint measurements here in Florida.
That is until they discovered tinting and now most of the cop car in Jacksonville FL are heavy tinted and they stopped enforcing the law on us sheep.
