First oil change question
Maybe it has been discussed before, but I noticed that new 2017 RX first oil change is at 5k miles (or maybe it's not even oil change, just service). My last new purchase was an ES and it needed first oil change on 1k miles. Did they change that schedule? I thought that the engine accumulates enough metal dust during break in period that the oil needs to be changed. Does anyone know an explanation why it's not needed any more?

Pole Position
The metal particles thing is no longer true or an issue.
If if you have synthetic oil, Lexus will not change until 10k unless you force them to do so.
This oil change thing is argued over and over, I am just going to follow what Lexus tells me. I do not plan on owning the vehicle forever.

No, I don't play soccer!
The 10K oil change has been standard since 2010 on the RX when Lexus changed to synthetic. It's not part of the 5K service. A few 3RX owners have had the oil analyzed and it's been fine. But you're free to change it earlier if you want.

I did my first oil change at 5kms. I know it didn't need it but I'm weird that way. Now every 10K....I'm in Canada so that would be around 3,500 miles for the first one and every 6,000 miles after that. That's around every spring and just before the winter, here in the frozen North. Pretty strange weather here in the winter and I don't like using winter oil thru the summer months, and use fresh oil before the winter.
