Tailgate malfunction
I’m having an issue with my tailgate on my rx350L 2018. When I hit the button to close it, sometimes it goes an inch then alerts that something is blocking it and returns to open. It gets the point where I have to close it by hand? Any ideas?
dont mean to insult your intelligence but is something blocking the closing latch? maybe something stuck inside the latch?
Is the opening and closing action smooth? Sounds like a door sensor or obstruction issue.

Sounds like a safety feature failure. If the safety system is malfunctioning it probably defaults to "no worky". Possibly a sensor has failed. It's time for a trip to the dealership, as they should be able to easily diagnose and fix it.
Seems like in past month or so when closing the rear gate by pushing the button on the gate it goes a few inches a then reverses like there is an obstruction, which I dont see. If i remove the cargo net from the normal upright position it seems to like that then. But never had this issue before. Wondering if there is some calibration or other fix.
Last night, an exceptionally cold night for North Carolina, I opened the power back door to my 2020 RX 450h and it seemed to labor a bit (perhaps my imagination). When I went to close the door, I pushed the button, it lowered about an inch and stopped with two beeps, and went back up, which I suspect is the obstruction safety sensors at work.
There was nothing in the way of the door which might have triggered a sensor. I repeated the close procedure a dozen times and got the same result.
Thinking the cold might have made the door labor to open and close (triggering a close obstruction alert), I applied gentle downward pressure on the door when trying to close. It had no effect the first 2 or 3 times, but finally the door closed successfully.
My questions:
1) Is there a manual way to close the door if it is stuck open like that?
2) Is there a way to override the door close obstruction sensors so it will close automatically?
3) Was my placing gentle downward pressure on the door responsible for getting the door to finally close, or was that likely just a coincidence?
Thank you!!

you can disable the powered rear hatch in the settings inside the instrument cluster. Once turned off you can operate manually. It is not recommended long term, since it puts lots of pressure on the parts and ball screw that operates it, but doable temporarily.
I'm having the same problem with my 2020 Rx 450hL. I push the button on the inside of the tailgate and it goes down a few inches then beeps and goes back up. It often takes 4-5 tries of doing exactly the same thing for it to decide to close. It seems like it's detecting an obstruction but there is nothing there.
1) Dumb question, but you just push and release the button (the picture of the car with the open tailgate) and walk away right? Not hold it down or anything right?
2) Where are the sensors and what area do they cover? Wondering if mine could be dirty or misaligned or something.
3) Does cargo in the back being too far back trigger it?
4) Is it detecting me walking away, perhaps too slowly?
Thanks.

Hi everyone,I own an RX350 F Sport, 2016 and I've recently encountered a problem with the power hatch. Most of the time, when I attempt to close it by pressing the close button, it beeps twice, emitting the same sound as if it has detected an obstacle, however, there are no obstacles around the hatch.
Wondering if anyone has the same issue and got a solution

manually forcing down works, it does automatically continue with a bit force to start
that's what we do now to close the hatch but quite inconvenient

I have a question about tailgate. My Rx350 2016 started having tailgate hiccups…goes up few inches stops you click again goes up few inches(like max 3”) stops …when goes down same thing goes down few inches back up 1” stops. I did resetting by pushing the button on a tailgate 2 different ways still doesn’t work. I did adjust tailgate on a computer to 4 then 5 nothing…then I turned off everything and turned off …nothing.
