Relax on the BURNING OIL panic. If in fact you were burning a quart every 1000 miles for example, Lexus would say "within limits" and do nothing. Would you actually want them to address it? .....Pull your engine and replace piston rings, etc.?...... Its pretty rare for a Toyota product to burn oil excessively. Now a VW product?? quite common and they still will not address. If in fact you have an extremely rare case.....A quart of synthetic oil is $6...big deal.

My 2016 RX has 108k on the clock and the oil level stays pretty close to where I set the level during oil changes. I believe the spec for Toyota/Lexus vehicles for normal oil consumption is 1 qt per 1200 miles, so most of your cases sound normal. That being said, most of my driving is highway, could have a lot less heat cycles versus other scenarios.

I've owned 2 of these 2GR FKS engines now, for a total of about 75K miles, and have never observed a drop of the oil level. I change it at 5K intervals because my driving is mostly short trips in suburbia and often not long enough to fully warm up the engine. That is considered harder on engine oil than highway or freeway driving. But no oil burning or leaking here.

I would rather not have oil consumption ideally. Well, time will tell. Thanks for participating guys.

Default Get IT Checked Everytime!

I have a 2020 LC 500… It has 13,000 miles on it. At 3000 miles, my oil light came on, and I checked the dipstick. Took it to Lexus; They serviced the car, including changing the oil. Right over 6000 miles, the oil light came on again. This time the factory had me do a 1000 mile oil consumption test. Meaning that I would drive it for 1000 miles and bring it back and let them check it. I did that, and when I brought it back… It was fine. A couple hundred miles later, the light came on again, and again the oil was low. This happened two more times. At this point, Lexus has no answers. Hopefully, I will have some soon. But my advice to you is to always take it to Lexus so they know exactly what’s going on, in case this situation repeats.

You drove it for 1000 miles and it was fine and a couple of hundred miles later it was empty? It would seem to me that losing about 5 qts of oil in 200 miles should be very obvious. Either clouds of blue smoke coming out the exhaust, or puddles of oil underneath the engine.

This is a different vehicle though. However, the previous LS460 did have oil consumption problems.
