IPOD has to load its library
If you have an IPOD with your music on it and want to play it on a 2021 Lexus RX forget about it. Every time you start your drive, the IPOD has to load its liabrary into the system which takes a long long time. When I hook the IPOD though bluetooth, thers is no navigation capabilities of the ipod. THe car just plays the fist song on my ipod and thats it. There is no search option of the ipod. I had BMW Porsche and NEVER had a problem with adding an IPOD, with LEXUS its a problem.
Is that really your criteria for car purchases? My HDTV won't play with rabbit ears - I guess I'll have to return it

I believe my android phone will allow me to play music via bluetooth, but I never actually bothered. I have just under 300 of my favorites on a USB thumb drive, for trips, but around town I just listen to the radio.
p.s. I never thought of my RX as a $60K music player .....

Go USB. Nothing to skip. It does reload at every start but it's freakin' fast! Amazon has mini usb 256gb thumb drives for $20.00. (approx). I like the mini ones as they seem impossible to snap off while reaching for something.
I agree that makes sense if you’re library is setup for MP3’s. To my knowledge this solution won’t work if you manage music with a Mac. Converting a library from AAC (Apple Lossless) to flac would be a lot of work.
iPods are still great, I think there are a few decent music players that may work.

I have connected iPod Touch and my phone with over 30GB of music to my 2017 RX450h. Only the first time it was connected, it took some time to load the database. On every other connection, it works fast. If I add a song, then the first connect takes a little longer to update the database.
If you have the ML system, it brings out the worst in mp3s loaded on usb. My wife's RX has the base system so it sounds fine but my ES has the ML and the same flash drive in my car sounds horrendous.
Here's the information: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-with-usb.html
- Don't bother with a USB stick over 32GB
- Format FAT32 (not exFAT or NTFS)
- Make folders as needed, each folder is limited to 254 songs
- aac, wma or mp3 file format
I agree with mikemu30, with Mark Levinson the mp3 quality is poor (but I put up with it because I'm too lazy to convert it all to flac).
