I'm new to the forum with my first Lexus - CPO 2017 RX 350. It has heated rear-view mirrors with blind-spot indicators, however, I have always used those circle blind-spot mirrors that you affix to the rear-view mirrors. My husband is very hesitant to put these on the Lexus as he says the glue from the mirrors is going to mess with heated mirrors. Does anyone have the stick-on mirrors on their cars and any issues with the heated mirrors? I know that I have the blind-spot indicators but I really like those little mirrors and feel better actually knowing what is in my blind spot. Thanks in advance for your advice.

 

If you adjust your mirrors properly you don't have blind spots.
The "Blind spot" is a carry over from when cars had only one mirror.

 

I have a 2017 and I put 3" blind spot mirrors on both sides since day one. I've had no issues at all with the heated mirrors.

The most common mistake is that the driver insists on seeing the tail (mostly right side) of the car in the side-view mirror. That creates the so-called "blind spot."

When I taught my daughter to drive, I told her, "You don't need to check if the tail of the car is still there. It's there whether you see it or not."

If you adjust the mirrors properly, a vehicle coming from behind is always visible in at least one of: (1) the rear-view mirror, or (2) the right side-view mirror, or (3) the left side-view mirror.

 

The "blind spot" mirrors, at least the ones I use, are more about expanding the field of view on both sides. I like them so that I can see if a car two or three lanes over is merging in to the lane next to me before I try to change lanes. That's something the regular mirrors cannot help with until the vehicle is already in your lane.

 

I also agree with Cocal. In your scenario, I believe that using your directional signals and turning your head is safer than relying on the blinking lights.

 

The mirrors I use dont have blinking lights and the BSM system wouldn't pick up a car from 2 or 3 lanes over. Why would I turn my head and lose vision of what's ahead of me when I can use mirrors that provide a better field of view? I use my signals 100% of the time but most dont nor do they care when they are zipping across 3 lanes at 100+mph.

A wide angle mirror is also helpful for backing up as it provides a better, wider view of the curb etc.. than the side mirror alone.

 

Bought my RX in 2016, immediately looked around (and sought comments from this board) regarding blind spot mirrors. I eventually bought two convex mirrors 2" in diameter. Now the question was where on the side mirrors to mount them.

I quickly discovered that any additional convex mirror was not very useful on the right-side mirror, simply because that mirror already covered a lot of the right lane. But the small mirror on the left-hand mirror proved invaluable. So where to mount it? Through trial and error I eventually settled on the extreme edge of the mirror in the 5 o'clock position.

I find this left-hand mirror to be very useful. I can easily see a vehicle to my left but rear of my field of view by just glancing at the little mirror.

Oh, and I think one of the folks on this board suggested removing a sticky-tape mirror by using dental floss. Worked like a charm.
