When you put the new rotor on make sure you clean the wheel bearing hub surface and add some ant seize, mine had an unusual amount of rust for being at 20k miles. But I found out my issue for vibrations, my front rotors weren't warped after I threw a gauge on it, one was installed incorrectly and thats also why it was nearly impossible to get off without the m8 screws. The hole for the wheel studs on the rotors are a bit oversized and it was off centered catching on the threads of the wheel studs, I really wish I have a picture to show everyone but I didnt think to take one as my hands were dirty. But heres a picture on paint i made lol..

I registered just to thank you for this post. My wife was experiencing the wobble on her RX and I was doing research on replacing pads/rotors on her RX and came across this post. I noticed the same thing with her rotors and it explained a lot considering that her pads were still good to go. I did what you said and cinched them down with lug nuts to get them centered and that helped a lot.

Thanks so much for making this post!

Any time, I noticed that if the problem or vibration has occurred for a long enough period of time, that the rotor is already slightly warped due to braking while it was off centered. Centering it again probably will fix the problem for now but it will eventually come back

I agree and it was cheap enough to replace the rotors and pads to fix the problem. It's interesting that there is that much room in the holes to cause the problem though. I would have thought they would have tighter tolerances than that. But it all worked out in the end.

Default Front brake rotor wear limit

My wife recently had her 2019 RX 350 with 55k miles at Lexus for them to check something and they told her the front rotors and pads are beyond their wear limits and needed replacing. They wanted over $600 to do it so I told her I would do it for her. I was just wondering if anyone knew the spec for the wear limit on the front rotors? I have searched the forum and it seems most people just replace them when they are having problems or replace them every time they change the pads or maybe every 2 or 3 times, etc.

I have read on here that many go with Akebeono pads and Centric rotors from Tire Rack, but they only have them up to the 2018 model year. So I was thinking of sticking with OEM Lexus pads/rotors.

One last question, does anyone know the torque value for the lug nuts and caliper bolts? Maybe I should just buy a short 2 day subscription to TIS for this info. Thanks for any help.

This shows the specs for the front rotors
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...443466&pt=1896

2 day TIS thing is great, download all the manuals you need for your car it's good value. Akebono ProACT pads can't be beat IMO I like them better than OEM. On rotors can't go wrong with OEM (besides the price) odd that Centric doesn't have rotors for 2019+. At 55k miles the factory rotors should still be in good shape they were probably fine dealers like to "exaggerate" things to make money.

edit - retail on the front rotors is about $100/each that's reasonable. Or could always get these and give the pads to someone you don't like

They make good rotors I loath their pads.

We had to replace all four at roughly 40K.

I was always under the impression to replace the pads when the pad thickness is the same as the pad backing plate. I don't know if that's still true. (I'm old!)

Thanks. I have used rockauto quite a bit, but never noticed the wear limits on the rotor description page. I agree with you on the rotors. I don't think I have ever had a car at the dealer without them saying the rotors need replacing. I come home, put the car on the lift and measure myself and almost every time they are ok.

I assume Centric does make rotors for the 2019, but Tire Rack just indicates they have no brake parts at all for the 2019 (only 2018 and older). According to Rockauto the Akebono ACT1324A pads fit RX350 from 2010-2021. So if this is correct, it sounds like Tire Rack just doesn't have the correct information on their website and the Centric rotors for the 2018 would probably fit the 2019. I looked on Rock Auto for Centric rotors and they claimed they fit the 2016-2021.

All four rotors? Were you have issues or were they worn beyond the spec (i.e. too thin)?

So I had the car in for an oil change and asked them to check the brakes - I knew they were close since the fluid was down in the reservoir. They returned the car and told me there was plenty of pad left. About two months later, I hear metal on metal (this is my wife's daily driver so im not in it every day). I bring it back and for sure all four rotors were done. After a serious arm wrestle, they paid for the rotors but I still had to pay for the rest. Unreal.

Yes indeed I've had some issues with them lately.

I guess once you've used any service group long enough you are bound to experience problems. Considering what the Lexus dealers charge for routine service is why I only go to them for warranty work and take my maintenance work to Toyota. Somehow, I have always felt that Toyota was working especially hard to maintain my business.

FYI - Some Oreilly Auto parts stores have the equipment to resurface (commonly known as "turning" rotors) for much much less than it typically costs to replace them. Call your local store and see if they do it, if they don't then ask them which of their local stores does. They will measure them and tell you if there is enough thickness left to resurface them again. Most Factory rotors can be resurfaced at least 2 or 3 times before they are too thin and must be replaced.

I resurfaced the rotors on an older rx350 for something like $25 each.

May I heartily disagree with you? In my opinion, based on my experience, factory rotors should never be resurfaced, only replaced. They are too thin to start with and resurfacing makes them very susceptible to warping.
Just my opinion.
