2020 RX - Kick Sensor - How to disable for hitch?
Would you happen to know the model number of the Curt hitch that you got?
Thanks. Were there any special considerations for installing it?
UPDATE:
I've learned to operate the kick sensor
And most importantly I was able to install a Curtis hitch without any issue, and the kick sensor still operates.
PS If you have an F-Sport, keep in mind that when installing any hitch, you will need to remove the lateral performance damper, which is a lightweight rod with gas damper. I'm pretty sure it's mostly used for vibration absorption; a hitch will give you much better rigidity needed to limit body flex.

Is the hatch kick sensor an option?
I have a 2016 F-sport 3 and holding my hand by the badge works to open, but no matter now much I kick/wave foot & step back/etc, the hatch doesn't open.
Yes, I have checked the vehicle settings are locks are set to all.

To cut or not cut was a discussion the owner (of the company installing the hitch) and I had. I assumed we’d cut that underside fascia, or whatever it is, because you can’t see that it is cut unless you crawl underneath the vehicle.
However, the owner put a receiver on his wife’s 2020 rx350 and preferred not to cut that under-siding on hers. No better reason than that — he didn’t want the fascia cut. He drove it to work to show it to me, which I appreciated him doing, and it looked fine. I brought up the hitch would scuff or rub against this underside fascia, but he minimized my concern about the rubbing. He asked if I planned to take the hitch off and I replied no due to how I’m a pretty serious and regular cyclist. He asked me if i would sell the hitch with the vehicle in the future, and I replied yes.
I appreciated him bringing up the discussion and weighing a couple of pros-&-cons w/ me. Ultimately, I told him I didn’t care how he installed it so long as it was on there. He said if they have to cut fascia, then he’d do so, but for me to plan on them not having to cut.

i did the work myself. Curt Part #: 13272
took maybe 30-60 minutes end to end and I was distracted when installing.
the kick sensor works still. You have to kick slightly to the right (doesn’t really work too well for me if you kick slightly left).
I also found that the kick has to be a little more precise when doing it. For me, I have to almost touch the facia with my foot for the sensor to activate. I kind of prefer that tbh.
the dealer will steal the money from you. i would go to uhaul, a local mechanic, or do the work yourself. It’s pretty easy and there are a ton of videos out there showing the process.

the sensor was on option on newer vehicles (2020?), for your 16, if you have it, its the rear touch free from the L emblem
1. Did you have the tow hitch installed afterward?
2. Where did you get yours done?
Anyone know if a trailer hitch interferes with the kick sensor for the rear hatch?
Thanks Moderator; didn't think to do an exhaustive search.
Sounds like the sensor does work, a good thing.
Did learn I'll need to watch more installation videos, though; more parts in the way with an F Sport. This is a next spring project anyway.

hello all,
I've been at this searching for a few weeks, and finally decided to just lay it out and ask for help
We are **leasing** a 2020 Lexus RX350 Executive pkg, in the Expedition colour Nori green, and I was super psyched as we found a popup trailer from my uncle we could buy and get more out of our Covid'21 summer, I confirmed it has the two prep already included (went under the car and confirmed visually) and when I start looking for hitches it got complicated quick.
Went to buy a hitch and got conflicting information from Hitchweb and others, some say version A fits, whereas others say only with fascia cutting, etc. Long and short of it as of right now, no aftermarket hitches fit without some kind of modificiation. This thread sums up the discussion on it ( which Im assuming all were outright owners, not leasees, and probably not Executive pkg owners to boot : https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...x350-base.html )
Called Lexus and the parts and services ppl say even their hitch can only be installed but at the cost of removing completely the kick sensor (the base 2020 RX350 does not have this issue, but the Executive does). So even going this route would probably having to alter the car that would violate lease terms - not ideal.
As far as I can see options are:
A) Do it myself > remove kick sensor (myself or someone else - if someone has done this please send info!) and reinstall before Lease return:
B) Get Lexus to do it (if they agree to in light of lease issues), which ultimately may not be an option
C) Leasebuster / get out of lease - extreme, but it has come up - we like the car, but we don't LOVE it, and this summer mental health and camping off the ground are more important than a car
Anyways, getting frustrated... and anyone with experience / info would be much appreciated!

- find the best of worst options for aftermarket hitch and install it myself without cutting fascia (the thread above has a cpl posts of people putting it on without cutting and letting it rub - waiting for word back what happened afterwards) - far as I can tell the CURT 13272 or DrawTite 75676
- above, but go about cutting the fascia, and then worry about the cost of replacing the fascia on lease return

Any Canadians here with the 2020 RX higher trims that have towed? I just checked the Lexus Canada website for the 2020 RX and it seems that the F Sport 2/3 and Executive packages have "towing capability removed". Wondering if this means that it just doesn't have the tow prep package inclusions or if it means that the wiring will be a mess.
complicated story, but we had bought a base RX350 last year and found out it had been damaged prior to delivery, and Lexus replaced the car with a Executive version which we though was great, and this year with Covid I was going to tow a trailer and ran into all kinds of problems and non-straight answers from Lexus Canada as to towing capabilities. We hadn't been concerned with towing at all until now

I had checked the lease statement and it read "Towing Capability" and gone under car on my own to confirm the cooling vents were there for the transmission, in the trunk there were the wiring hookups for the harness hookup, so I had assumed all was good... but upon reading this thread I dbl checked the lease and see it reads "Towing Capability r/", which I guess confirms it was removed.
But the question is : What is removed/nerfed just for the kick sensor? We don't care or use the kick sensor (I too find it annoying), so beyond that kick sensor being blocked, is the car essentially still capable of towing? I can get a wiring harness and the Curt hitch I was looking at (which was supposed to have issues rubbing on the bumper, but Im OK with that), but just want to avoid a needless return if I can.
If anyone has input on this please let me know - otherwise I have to cancel my purchase of the popup trailer I was looking forward to!
Hi,
I'm in the delivery process the 2020 RX450HL, and I need to use a hitch to carry my bikes. The dealer informed me after that the hitch can't be installed because of the kick sensor of the new RX.
Just wanted to ask if anyone has the same issue with a hitch install for the new 2020 RX, and what was the eventual work around.
Unfortunately, I need a hitch, and this becomes a deal breaker for my families needs.

hi, I live in UK and encountering same issue. Have found a company that will be checking the car on 4th March 2021 to see if they can manufacture a towbar for this car. All the Highly qualified Lexus dealers have no idea why there isn't an option. I will update this thread once I have paid a visit on Thursday.

For all of you wanting to use your kick sensor and also install a hitch. See my post and photos on this thread. Hope it helps answer some questions:
