I had a bad experience today. I was trying to backward to parking lot, I shifted on R, I depressed gas pedal a little like we always do when parking, the car suddenly accelerate to forward, jump up the curb hit a tree and damage the front right severely.
I have replayed the whole thing in my heard many times, I don't think i did anything wrong! lucky thing was no one got hurt. but I still feel scared, what if someone in front of my car?
insurance will cover the repairing, and I will bring this question to dealer after repairing.
any suggestion, and did anyone have similar transmission problem on this model? I read this forum, this problem wasn't new, I can't believe they havent concern this after these years.
again, this in the latest rx350
Sounds like you mistakenly put the car in Drive rather than Reverse and applied too much throttle. Shouldn't be applying that much throttle (enough to clear a curb and hit a tree) while in Reverse anyways. Luckily no one was hurt. I'm sure Lexus will investigate and check the on-board computers to rule out any issues with the car at the time of the accident. You might be the first on these forums to report this kind of issue and blame it on the car.
These transmission problems in the NX you mentioned are probably unrelated to your incident. They are probably complaints about rough shifts or metallic sounds.

Thank for your reply.
I read one post on this forum saying transmission hesitate 2~3sec. I was not trying to blame Lexus, I loved this car so much and I want to know what really happened at that moment.
I never apply that much throttle at any circumstances, the sudden acceleration was very weird for me.
should I go dealer to report the accident today or after body shop fix my car?
The hesitation that people are taking about usually occurs when in drive and the need to accelerate quickly. The hesitation is minimal but is definitely noticeable. When a person reports that the hesitation is 2-3 seconds it probably just feels that way, I highly doubt that the hesitation is that extreme.
There is a tendency to over accelerate when one is expecting the vehicle to go one direction and it goes the opposite. You are not the first person to mistake forward from reverse, there are many examples of people making this mistake. The results are usually not pretty, especially in a confined space like a parking lot.
The dealer will be able to tell gear position before the accident. You can have them check it out before or after the repair, depends on the damage. Either way they should be made aware of your concern.
This is the first time I have read about an RX350 going the wrong direction. My experience it is operator error, not the vehicle, and that includes all vehicle manufacturers.
Sorry to hear about your issue, good thing you or anyone else did not get hurt...the vehicle can be fixed good as new!
Thank you for your reply.
I went to bodyshop this morning, sit in my car, tried hard to recall what have I done that moment. Ia picture flashed in my head: when the car stopped over the falling tree, I did look at the gear, it was on N. this will rouse question to me. Anyway, I hope the computer will tell me how and why, I will update you when I get the answer.
First time in my life I became paranoid, maybe I should get my brain MRI scanned. Lol
Thank you guys. I am lucky, yesterday on site, two guys came hug me calm me down and offer help.

We are glad you were not injured. The transmission was likey moved from Drive to Neutral when you hit the tree. Accidents, even at low speeds are quite dramatic and it is possible you hand or arm hit the shifter and pushed it into N (neutral).
Sorry to hear your accident. You should relay the whole thing to the dealer for two reasons. First and foremost to identify if there is mechanical problem for the benefit of all. Second, to re-affirm your driving confidence. I'm quite sure you are already very aware of this safety when backing up. Always, turn your head back even when equipped with reverse camera to verify path is clear. Always, start very very slow to verify the vehicle is in reverse. Third, after verifying path is clear then turn heads to side mirrors for more clearance.
Bodyshop guy phoned that it will take 2-3weeks to fix my car. after that, I will bring it go dealer to do a full check and ask them pull out computer data.
up until now, I still can't accept the cause was that I put too much throttle which made the car accelerated suddenly, even clear the curb. if this is true, I hate myself to be so careless, I will punish myself. any idea how?
