iPhone USB Audio Playback
Curious if anyone has a solution for the "Ipod Not Connected" on-screen message when plugging my iPhone 6 into the USB port (2017 Lexus RX350 F). I can play audio when selecting songs on Spotify from my phone, but I thought there would be hands free capability to cycle through songs....similar to bluetooth?
Media on an active phone works best through BT. When you paired the iPhone VI it also connected the BT.
Press the hard key "Media" or select source with remote controller. Be sure that the device volume is 1/2 or higher.
Plug the USB cord into a 12v dc adapter and use one of the four (4) power ports, they supply much more than the
500 milliamp (.5 amp) that the USB jack can. Steering wheel controls and display of songs will be connected.
Trouble can arise when you hardwire to the USB jack including failure to segue from phone back to media after a call.
Use the USB cable to connect any non-phone device iPod or flashdrive. On the RX you can put an iPod in the
small covered cubby and loop a .5 meter ("14) lighting cord to the USB. Leave it on forever and it will trickle
charge (when the RX is on), enjoy great bandwidth and best of all, verbal command function...press Off Hook
and say "Play Artist Eric Clapton!)

Thanks for that info. I find a noticeable difference in sound quality between bluetooth vs. USB or AUX....probably since audio is being compressed. I don't mind running a station or playlist from my iPhone with the USB cable plugged in, I just wish I had hands free capability (similar to Pandora with the built in enform app).
People still have ipods these days? LOL

I also find the audio quality is better with USB than Bluetooth. Bluetooth uses a compression scheme to transmit the audio that adds some distortion.

I have ace no problems getting a phone cal, the phone pauses the music,l answering with hands free Bluetooth or my Bluetooth headset and then continuing to play music once the call hangs up.
My annoying bit bit is that every time I connect the iPhone with USB and select the phone on the radio, it starts playing the first song. However, if I plug in the iPhone before starting the car, it will continue playing the last thing it played, a podcast, or audiobook that is not in the iTunes app.
I use an iPhone 6 everyday with USB on a 2017 RX 450h. Sometimes when I connect my iPhone wile the Navi is booting the iPhone is not recognized. I have to disconnect the cable and reconnect again to get it to play. The controls on the steering and radio will pause, play, forward, and rewind the songs.
