Default Flange Rust - Is this normal?

Hello,

I noticed the pipe flange underneath the car looking rusty. Is this normal? Should I be concerned. Less than 12K km. Maybe I'm being paranoid.

Mine is almost like like that from Day 1. Normal. I sprayed a coat of Rust Check for peace of mind.

Not trying to revive an old thread but wanted to check if there are recommendations on current RX owners with this same issue. Mine doesn’t look as bad but wanted to get some preventative going if there are any.

We’ll all have a ton of surface rust underneath in no time it’s normal. I try to wash the undercarriage atleast once a week in the winter when there putting down salt in the winter (NJ). You can use a wire brush to clean off the surface rust then wipe it off with alcohol then hit it with one or two thin coats of rust oleum high heat. Mask all the surrounding areas to avoid getting overspray on them.

Mine looked the same, even after 8000 km.

Gotcha, will be leaving it alone then, lol. I didn't have much comparison and my older cars didn't have that issue so I started googling, haha.

Hi there. Did you receive any feedback on this? We just purchased a 2021 RX350 and it looks the same. 18K on it. We noticed it a couple days after picking it up. I thought with the Lexus pre owned certification that something like this would have been addressed.

Feedback is pretty much just what other folks have stated. It is what it is, haha. The pre owned certification is probably better than other companies and likely differs from dealerships but it's a crap shoot. The best judge will be yourself to see if there's anything being overlooked. Usually AFTER you sign/pay and leave, it'll be hard for you to get anything done to the car UNLESS your salesman is willing/helpful unfortunately.

Although I'm in California, the car was originally sold in Colorado. That's likely why there's those build up by the time I got it, just the weather down in Colorado.

I'm in NY so we always have issues with rust due to the snow and salt. Have recently discovered Blaster Surface Shield and has held up pretty well so far.

That’s absolutely nothing to worry about. It’s gonna happen on any car. It’s structurally sound and will be for a very long time. “Something like this being addressed” is like expecting them to clean the inside of your exhaust pipe to make it look new or put the the little rubber nubs back on the tires so they look new again.

In case you haven’t fix yet or this can be useful to anyone else
take 50 or 80 grit sand paper and sand off most of rust, then clean with rubbing alcohol let dry. Mask off area and only use High temperature Muffler Manifold Spray Paint that is Fire Proof !! (Do Not !! Use Engine because it could catch Fire)

(Do Not Use Engine Paint)
