Default Power Liftgate Sensor 2016 RX350

Does the power liftgate/tailgate on the 2016 RX350 have a sensor that recognizes when it goes up if there is an obstruction that it is going to hit and automatically stop it from continuing to lift? My first day with my brand new car I hit the top of the garage with the lift, scratching the car.

landnett, welcome to CL. There is no sensor for that. What you can do is adjust the height the tailgate opens.

No, ithe tailgate does not have a proximity sensor. I had a similar experience, but I pressed the close button and it stopped the tailgate just in time from hitting the garage door. I had to reprogram the garage door to open much higher so the tailgate would not hit it. Then, I read the manual and it confirmed that pressing the close button of the lift gate while it is opening would stop its motion. Pressing again would close it. Apparently, you can also put pressure on the door by holding it and it should stop.

There is a sensor. It's the same sensor that touchless power door uses. It's in the top half of the emblem. It will only stop if the emblem sensor senses an obstacle. I think it's mainly to make sure you are out of the way of the door. To test, as it's going up, put your hand on the emblem. It will stop.
