I got oem glass last month. I have $500 deductible from StateFarm. It was $500 regardless which glass I got.

Hi All

Had to replace the windshield glass recently. Do I need to do a calibration after this?

Thank you

Question Original vs generic windshield ?

2019 RX450h needs new windshield (Cracked top to bottom). Allstate said $780 for Lexus windshield vs. generic, other than the logo is there any difference?

I replaced mine last month and requested Lexus OEM. My insurance covered it with no additional charge. I believe the Lexus glass is laminated and designed to minimize sound in cabin. Mine did require a calibration at the shop. Whole job took about 1.5 - 2 hrs to complete.

Default What to expect with windshield replacement

2021 base model with panoramic view. Got a rock ding a few days ago…right in front of the driver’s viewpoint. I mean right smack dab in the middle looking straight ahead. Safelight came out this morning to try to repair but it’s still very obvious, so they have scheduled a replacement a week and a half from now. The repair guy said it would likely take 2 to 4 hours since cameras needed recalibration afterward, etc (which Safelight will do in their shop).

Sound reasonable? Insurance should fully cover with no deductible.

Mine was done by Safelite in their shop so that they could calibrate. Mine was less than 2 hrs on 2020 RX....see post above yours. Recommend that you request Lexus OEM glass which Safelite has and was covered by my insurance. Job done perfectly.

An hour later, I came out & as soon as took the sunshade down, I saw a one foot long horizontal crack! Now, it’s about two feet long. I called my insurance & they gave me their recommended glass shop’s name, so I went there yesterday. The cost to replace this stupid windshield is over $1300!!! The glass shop said the two black trim pieces must be replaced also at $70 each. I don’t have all the safety equipment, just rain sensing wipers. I have owned many cars & trucks & I have NEVER had a windshield break like this. I’ve been hit with Golfball sized rocks that never cracked a windshield. I’ve even had one that looked like a bullet hit it, but it never cracked. This has a teenie tiny rock chip about an inch from the edge. Even the glass shop thought this was weird with that small of a rock chip. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this the nature of this acoustic glass?

When I First Discovered

Now 2ft Long
Holy hell, EXACT same thing for me! EXACT same crack in the same spot for no reason... HMMMM.................. This has got me thinking.

For what it’s worth, it was a pretty warm day (90s) at around 12 to 1pm. Fortunately, it hasn’t happened again. I do notice that I get a lot more film build up on the inside of the windshield as the car ages. I don’t think that’s a fault of the glass, but it sure would be great if they could engineer a windshield glass that resists that smokey film (we don’t smoke) from building up in the summertime.

I thought the comprehensive part of your car insurance would cover this with deductible if you have this coverage.
Haven't had to replace one on the RX, but on my other car I only paid an 100 deductible. The total of the repair wasn't $1k though.

It does cover it. I don’t have a deductible, but I really didn’t want a claim. The cheapest estimate I got was almost $1000, but it wasn’t OEM quality. I decided to use my auto insurance & went with a reputable local company that’s been in the glass business for generations & they ordered the windshield direct from Lexus, as opposed to a semi-unreliable Safelite. I was very happy with the local company’s work.

Yea, everyone keeps blaming in on the heat, though like most other people here, I've had TONS other cars in my life and none of them had a windshield that cracked just because of the heat... There's something fishy going on that they're not telling us... no way the same crack in the same spot...

As for your film, all cars get it, moreso on newer cars; it's the plastic dash outgassing because of the UV rays breaking it down. My older cars don't do it nearly as bad. The more you keep your windshield clean the easier it will be to clean it when that happens.

hello guys. im a new lexus owner. i just bought a 2019 lexus rx 350 sport. but i noticed that the windshield is not OEM and theres a lot of ping pong effect going on when lane keep assist is on. dealer recalibrated it already but ping pong effect is still there. car does correct it self but it takes a while and at times it doesnt. so my question is do you have to get a OEM windshield to get lane keep assist to work? thanks
