Wink 17RX350 FWD - replacing windshield

My windshield will be replaced this week due to a foot long crack.

Is there anything that needs to be recalibrated after the replacement?

My windshield has the rain sensing feature only.

Thank you.

Something I would speak with a Lexus Service Department about in regards to instrument calibration. Especially the safety systems cluster affixed at the upper part of the inner windshield above the rearview mirror.

I contacted two dealers in different cities & neither will touch glass replacements. I find that odd, especially when they have body shops. To answer your question, I only have rain sensing wipers & I used OEM Lexus glass, so I didn’t need any calibration. I had a local glass shop do the work & it appears very good. This is definitely the most expensive windshield I’ve ever seen at $1300+!

Thanks for the info. Lexus dealer referred me to an auto glass shop. The shop worked with my insurance and an OEM windshield replacement was approved.

Waiting to get a call to schedule the replacement.

Dealer did not say about recalibrating anything so that's why I asked in the forum. I guess there's nothing to do.

Default Rx350 bad quality windshield?

Hi everyone,
I bought my rx350 on dec 2017, and is packing up to 8400 miles since december ( i got it when it was only 25 miles)
the past 5 months i have replaced my windshield due to crack on the top right of the windshield. ( long story short, i went out of state and the windshield got hit by a tiny fragment of stone, cracked from the size of coins into 10 inches wide of crack over the weekend because of the heat)
called dealer, got a quote and fixed it( paid full by insurance with $50 deductible)
after just 17 days, my windshield have another small tiny hole.. the size of an ant.
Does anyone has a bad experience with windshield? Or it just me.

This was the nasty crack and expanded over the weekend.

It happen to me too! I guess i am not the only one.
luckily my insurance paid everything except for the deductible. After 17 days of my replacement, i notice there is small tiny hole on my windshield from the stone that hit my car on the way home from work. It sucks, but i don’t know how to deal with it.

Is the hole near the edge of the glass? Pics?

I have had two small rock hits. One in the middle that chipped the glass. The second at the bottom right next to the wiper that made a small star cracks. Both have been filled at Lexus. I have the Tire and Wheel Protection Plus that cover some windshield repair. So far the chips and cracks have not expanded.

My older car had several multiple rock hits through the years and only one time it actually cracked/chipped the glass. This car windshield seems much more susceptible to a damage from small peebles.

I do have the platinum plus warranty, but the crack was over the size of credit card so it wasn't help either.
Maybe i will use it when i do my 2nd free service to cover up the small tiny whole on my new windshield.

Sorry to hear what happened to you guys. My GX470 had similar crack like "Ggone" about 10+ years ago on the driver side. Out of the blue on a cold winter day, I noticed the crack after pulling out the garage. I did not detect any sign of rock hitting it. I amateurishly concluded that it was probably stress crack or manufacturing defect. Fast forward few more years, I had 2 more windshield replacement on this car due to rock damage. I had it replaced under comprehensive insurance, just paid $50 deductible.

Yes, I see the impact mark on the glass. There is no way to fix this, unfortunately. If you catch it as just a rock chip, a glass repair shop can inject a material into the chip to hopefully stop it from spreading. Mine never even gave me a chance. It must have cracked as soon as I parked, because it was cracked an hour later. These windshields are freak’n expensive! Mine was $1300 & if you have the extra safety equipment, it’s even more & takes a lot more to install. This glass certainly doesn’t take any abuse at all. There is also an argument that ORM glass is better & thicker. I haven’t researched this to comment, but I wanted to throw it out so you guys know it’s out there, good or bad.

Got a crack on the driver side , 1. If I tap the glass the crac increases. Lexus has quoted 1500 which includes labor. After arguing with Geico got the OEM glass approved. Do all insurance companies have this clause of OEM equivalent?
