Default Adjusting headlight height

Does anyone know how to adjust the headlight height/level on the RX 350. We have the normal lights (not triple LED). I looked in the owner's manual and couldn't find anything.

My wife says that they seem a bit high and that people keep flashing their lights at her thinking she's high beaming them.

Take it back to Lexus under warranty along with any other concerns. Should only take a few minutes with appointment. They have the proper specs, and no use doing it yourself at this early stage. I have the cold weather package option which includes automatic headlight leveling system. Don't know if that would even help though if the lights were actually out of adjustment.

Thanks go3Ds.

Our 5k checkup is coming up in a couple months. I'll have it checked out then. Thx!

It can easily be changed if you have a long screwdriver. Open the hood, and you'll see 4 holes (2 over each headlight) with arrows indicating R-L and U-D. If you put the long screwdriver into the hole, it will turn a gear-like thing. You are suppose to turn the Right-Left adjustment as many turns as the Up-Down.

You could wait until the 5K mile service, but if the headlights are within specs, then they won't change anything.

Thanks dchar. I might do that and then have them double check it when I take it in for the 5k.

Default Constantly getting flashed with low beams?

Yesterday we left the beach and went home late at night. During the 3 hour ride back home, with 2 hours being on a 2 way lane, I would say about 30 cars flashed me and it wasn't even the low to the ground cars, a couple CRVs and other SUVs flashed me as well. I checked the lights and I didn't have high beams on.

This is my first car with HID headlights. Is there anything I can do? Or do I have to deal with cars that keep flashing me because the HID are brighter than normal lights?

The headlights are actually LED, not HID. They are brighter than regular headlights. It's possible that the headlights were set too high at the factory. You can adjust them yourself with a long Phillips screwdriver. Open the hood, and you'll see near the headlights, on the black plastic, a marking with UD (Up and Down) and arrows. Insert the screwdriver into the hole and twist in desired direction. Keep track on how many turns so you can do the exact same on the other side.
If you are uncomfortable doing it yourself, your dealer should be able to help you.

I would recommend you have the dealer do it and calibrate it properly. Its easy to get carried away with the adjustment screws while the dealer will have a wall pattern to do it to factory spec.

I haven't had the issue while driving the RX with the bi-LED lamps, but I'm probably flashed once a week when I have my low beams on in our RDX with HIDs (supposedly a common occurrence with the RDX). They usually, but not always stop flashing when I flash them back to show that I don't have them on. You can have the dealer check the headlamp alignment. If they are in spec, you may be able to ask them to lower the aim point, but I doubt they will. It is just something that I've become used to when driving the other car.

This is just a guess but if you had a heavy load in the back of the car it can cause the lights to throw a higher beam for just this trip. When unloaded it goes back to normal

Does the OP have Triple-Beam LEDs or the standard Bi-LED Headlights? Either way, I thought all RX models have auto-leveling headlights. Does that affect the way the lights are projecting? If there is a load in the back, the headlights should tilt down, right?

I was thinking about this too, and found this in the Owner's Manual, p. 243:

Automatic headlight leveling system (if equipped)
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number of passengers
and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the headlights do not interfere
with other road users.
But "if equipped" sounds like not all 4RX's have this feature.

I only have the standard headlights. Whatever comes standard with the F sport.

Taking it into the dealer this week to check it out.

Had a dog in the back and shes 90 lbs and some suitcases that weren't even heavy. So not sure if that might've been it. I haven't driven on a 2 way lane and this was the first time so I'm unsure.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Default Do you think they were flashing you just because you have a cool looking car?

I remember that my family had a BMW 320i in 1980 just when BMW was starting to get its reputation as a "high end" car in the USA. There were not that many around back then and we constantly received headlight flashes along with thumbs up signs just because it was a somewhat different car back then with a "cool factor" to it.
