Default 2020 Power Back Door Settings for Garage

I just bought a 2020 RX 350 with a kick sensor door liftgate. I can go into the settings in the car and set the liftgate anywhere from 1 to 5 so that when I open it, it will only open halfway so as not to hit the garage ceiling. When I drive to a grocery store I want the liftgate to open all the way but I have it set so it only opens halfway. The manual says if I stop it and then push and hold the switch on the back of the door for 7 seconds it will buzz twice and open all the way up to the default position. But now when I drive home I can't go in the garage and open it because it will open all the way up because it is now set to the default position. Anyone know a way around this?

No perfect solution, it's a compromise. I set the door to the max opening in my garage, a custom setting, which is high enough for me not to hit my head when I'm loading stuff. You could always set for you garage height and outside when it stops opening just push it up to the top. That will not effect your lower garage setting.

sounds like garage height is your option, to error on the safe side. you would hate to have it get smooshed and scuffed up.
i thought if it was only part way open it can be pushed up to a higher height, and not change the perset. If the button is held i think, it is trained.

try that, open the garage perset, or adjust that setting, save and close the hatch, then open it again, it will stop there, then push the tailgate itself up, and see how that works, close again, then open to position, should be garage height. (hope that makes sense, still working on my first cup of coffee, )

Thank you Nail34 and JSracer for the great ideas. I just tried the suggestion JSracer made and it worked. Now when I go to the grocery and push the button it will stop at garage height. Here is my last question. As Nail34 suggested, when I got to the store I pushed the remote and it opened to garage height. I then just manually pushed it up until it stopped. Am I hurting or doing any damage to the lifters when I push this manually up? It went up but I can feel force when I did it.

Thanks guys for the comments.

Inside the garage manually set the height you want and set it there, I think it's push the button until it beeps. Then go outside, open the hatch and make sure it's the height you set.
