Has anyone had a discussion with Jerry about reducing the cost of the warranty if there was a CPO warranty that would cover the first six years? Yes I sent him an email to ask these questions but thought I would ask the group here as well as I have not received a response yet from him.
how did you get 2026?? If the car was titled in 2017 then it is 4 years plus 2 for the cpo, if it was 2018 then the same. So for example if titled in 2018 you are looking at warranty expiring 2024 which is 2 more years. It’s not when you purchased the car this year, plus 6 years. It does not work that way. You are looking at buying a 6 year warranty if you want 10 years but it depends on when the car was titled. The prices would have to be really low for me to buy a used car with these ridiculous inflated prices. I brought new. Jerry will ask for the vin number and his prices are great!

You are correct. As background I was not looking to purchase a car but a deer had other intentions and the Insurance Co totaled my BMW. While the dealer did have a “retail markup” on the sticker, I refused to pay it in the business office and walked out. They then called me back and told me that they would sell the car without it. so if I look at KBB or NADA, the cost was on par with the value. While it still may be a bit inflated, I was able to control it some.

Jerry was not able to help as the warranty he supplies also starts from the date of “in-service” so having the CPO basically gives me a six year Lexus warranty. Granted it really only is two year warranty at this point but its two additional years. Getting a ten year warranty was not worth the expense. I thought they would just charge for the additional four years after the factory warranty expires but alas I was wrong. Just better to put that money away in a separate account to pay for something in the future.

It has always annoyed me when offered an extended warranty on anything, cars, appliances, furniture etc. that the warranty you're buying is reduced by the manufacturers original warranty.

Default Planning To Purchase - 2018 F Sport

Hi Everyone - I’m in the process of purchasing an 18 F Sport, L Certified, w/ 47k miles. This will be the first time joining the RX family and the second time Lexus (I previously owned an 03 LX470. I’ve always been more of a BMW/Mercedes driver but can no longer handle the maintenance & poor quality of those branded vehicles. Would appreciate you opinions on the RX F Sport with regards to long term ownership, quality, etc. On average, I keep my cars at least 10 years. Also, I’d appreciate your opinions on the Lexus Extended Warranty (not the Service Warranty). I was thinking of getting the extended warranty because, again, once bitten twice shy from my BMW/Mercedes experiences and the repair costs.

Thanks to all who answer!

There are owners on this forum who love their extended warranties and think it is well worth the money. I'm not one of them -- I drove a 2015 RX for 3 years with zero warranty claims. I have 42K miles on my 2018 RX and had one warranty claim that was taken care of. I do my own oil, filter, and wiper blades. I've got a lot of faith in the car's design, and doubt that an extended warranty would pay for itself. I think you're getting a good car -- you can bet against it with a warranty if you want.

Before my RX 350 (2017) I had a 2008 MB E350 4Matic which I loved, but I got T boned and so here I am with a Lexus SUV (Wife wanted SUV)
Never had problems with MB but I can tell you that maintenance cost with Lexus is abou 25% of MB>

I appreciate those who’ve answered. I guess I should modify my original post in that the automobile maintenance is expected, but it’s the ridiculous, complex REPAIRS which practically broke me. I mean, imagine having to change the door handle mechanism on a BMW X5 5 times (each door once and driver’s door twice) plus a valve stem repair which the dealer wanted $7k to do but I had it done for $2.5k. It’s things like this that’ve made me shy away from German cars. I bought a CPO Infiniti QX80 w/ their Infiniti Wrap extended warranty. So far I’m 2+ years/30k into ownership and no need for warranty work yet, just regular maintenance.

I didn't purchase the extended warranty either, but some here on the forum had issues and they were covered.
Just make sure to read the coverages very carefully. Also you should have better service from your Lexus than your old B&W.
Welcome to the forum....

Honestly, no warranties are necessary. Outside some TSB's which were covered under the original warranty period, I have zero issues besides a sunroof seal. Having worked for BMW and owning BMWs, owning a Lexus is about as carefree as it gets.

Save the money for a rainy day.

FWIW, I bought the Lexus 5-yr extended warranty when I bought my L-Certified 2019 RX450h F-Sport last Feb 2021, and am covered until Sept 2030. While it might turn out to have been money wasted, I figure all it takes one major electronic thingy to go TU to have it pay for itself. And for five extra years of peace of mind beyond the included L-Certified warranty (thru Sept 2025), I'm okay with that.

My previous 2006 RX400h (also Lexus CPO when I bought in 2009) had two items covered while still under the CPO warranty. First was they replaced the AC evaporator coil as some microbial coating on it was flaking off and sending white dust thru the cabin, almost like my own personal snow globe. The other item was the AC compressor which was also replaced (which would have cost me ~$4k if not covered). These two items happened within a few years of owning it and luckily while still under the original CPO warranty (as I did not purchase any add'l extended warranty).

So this is why I bought the 5-yr extended warranty - it's cheap insurance that I easily afforded. YMMV, but hopefully you make the best choice for you.

Enjoy the RX!!

" It has always annoyed me when offered an extended warranty on anything, cars, appliances, furniture etc. that the warranty you're buying is reduced by the manufacturers original warranty. "

The cost of the original 4-year Lexus warranty is built into the purchase price. The money you spend for the Extended warranty is for the time after the original expires. Not the original 4.

If you buy a new car every 4 years. You don't need to buy an extended warranty. If you do like I do. Keep a car for 6 years. Then you pay the thousand dollars for an additional 2 years of coverage. Which is definitely worth the money.

I don't care what Lexus product you buy. You will have at least 1 each thousand-dollar repair in those 2 years. My 2016 RX350 that has almost 60K. Just had a 2.000-dollar repair done. The dealership replaced both of the rear door lift actuators. 950 each. This is on top of the 4 other 1000 dollar plus repairs they have done.

The extended warranty is not for everybody. If you want to put the 1000 dollars in the bank. And hope you don't need it. Great

But for me. I sleep better at night knowing if I wake up tomorrow and the car doesn't start. I just costs me a couple hours of my time waiting for the tow truck. And to drive away in the loaner till the repair is done.

Especially now. With parts becoming hard to get. You could be waiting weeks for the part to come in. In the meantime, you drive around in your free loaner. Till you get the call to pick up your car. Not having to worry what the cost is.

You need to spend a few hours reading some of the different sub forums on this web page. You will find numerous threads about vehicles that need 10K plus repairs done. The most recent one I read was for a a bad Panoramic roof.

I personally have had an 8K repair done to my previous Lexus. The Air Conditioning wasn't working correctly. And it took 3 visits to get it fixed. They ended up removing the dash and replacing all of the air control valves to fix the problem.

Is it worth buying the additional 4 yr/96K extended warranty priced at almost $3K from Lexus? I never bought any extended warranty for my 2005 Acura MDX and it is still running fine after 16 yrs.

I just bought a brand new 2022 RX 350. Lexus is trying to sell me an extended warranty (additional 4 yrs 96K miles) for almost $3K. Is this really worth buying? I still have my 2005 Acura MDX Touring with NAV & RES. Never bought an extended warranty for the Acura. After 16yrs, the NAV DVD player went out. But, everything else works fine.

Call Jerry at Midwest. Many people on here have brought the same Lexus warranty through him and I did as well. It is a Lexus Platinum Warranty, exactly the same as the dealership but cheaper. Jerry's information is all over the board on this thread.
