I want to replace the front USB ports (charge-only) in my RX 450h 2020. I have watched a lot of videos of the head unit being disassembled or replaced but the videos never show if you end up getting access to remove the USB ports or not (after removing the head unit), and I haven’t found any guide on the steps to remove this USB socket.
Does anyone know how to get access to replacing the USB ports? I would think the plastic shell (circled in red) is kept in place by the center console, but I don’t want to have to remove the center console (seems like an excessive amount of work).
The image below should be clear enough about the ports I’m referring to. I’d appreciate any guidance about this!
Hope we get a answer!
Also, hope about replacing the consol port I woudl love to CONVERT to USB-C on all ports?
Or, its they go bad in teh future. I knwo you can add a adaptor, but its just another item to add.
Full disassembly of the interior of an RX, however it’s just shown in parts so it’s not very clear, at 6:48 you can see the frontal USB ports being removed ant it seems to require removing the center console first (which I haven’t found a proper guide on how to do on the RX)
I’m trying to extrapolate information among all of this, and I’ll update this thread if I get any new information, but hopefully someone with experience will chime in.
Important: this is for the charge-only ports because those are probably just a 12v —> 5v converters, the port for CarPlay probably requires much more work, especially because the module needs to negotiate the USB connection with the phone, etc., so I’m guessing that it would be a lot more complicated.
What about USB C adapters? Would it still work with Carplay?
A good quality type A to type C USB adapter should work for Carplay or for anything and be much easier than tearing your whole car apart. Good luck all.

I don’t intend to change the CarPlay port, most of the adapters for wireless CarPlay are USB-A anyways, but the charge-only ports should be relatively simple.
And why not just an adapter? I’m currently using one, but I don’t like how it looks, and I also like to work on my cars as a hobby, so I guess it’s mostly that.

Yeah, it was just a thought only for OP. I don't use them, I prefer a direct connection.
Hi, just a quick update on this, I bought the following Toyota parts:
85532-0E100: USB-C connectors for the rear of the center console (for the rear seats). These ones have small lids on top.
85532-0E110: USC-C connectors for the front connectors below the radio (the one in the picture from my first post). These ones don’t have the lids.
I already installed the ones for the rear seats, because popping the back of the console was pretty easy, the plug is the same, so it was a 5-minute or less install. I tested it and it charged my phone without problems. The tricky part was figuring out how to remove the ports, but it was just by pressing the black tips (2 on top and 2 on the bottom) and pushing it out instead of pulling it.
I haven’t installed the frontal ones since this requires a lot of time, but in case someone is interested, it has worked without issues so far.
