Default Retrofitting trunk close&lock button

Hello
Our 2018 RX 450h has just this button to close the trunk:

This means that there is no way to lock the car and walk away when the trunk is (very slowly) closing. Using the keyfob or the door handles to try to lock the car while the trunk is closing, just produces a long beep, so I have to wait until the trunk is fully closed and then I'm able to lock the car.

I've seen that some cars come with this double button that also has a button for closing the trunk and locking the car:

Has anybody tried retrofitting this button and made it work like it's supposed to? Is it possible?
Or is there any other solution to not have to wait for the trunk to close completely before locking the car?

Just press your button twice.

All you have to do is hit the button twice, the gate will close and lock. It's in the owners manual.

Thanks, but I tried it. If I quickly press it two times, nothing happens. When I press it two times slowly, the trunk closing beep will begin after the first press and will stop after the second.
I don't think there are any settings related to that button in the Vehicle Settings menu either?
Nevertheless, I will try this again right now and report back.

If its a European spec car, then it might be different

Yes, it does indeed seem to be something that's missing on the EU models.
Pressing the button twice does nothing and produces a longer beep after a few seconds, which I assume lets me know that the trunk closing procedure was cancelled.
There is nothing about it in the manual either, although I did discover that the car has touchless trunk opening, which we didn't know, so that's nice.
Anyway, back to the original question - if its possible to retrofit the dual action close&lock button and make it work like it does in the US? Or perhaps just ask the dealership about coding the double-press function?

I would assume this is hard coded in the hatch ECU. Might have to swap the ECU with a US/Canada destination car. But, wouldn't hurt to ask the dealer, maybe its a dealer configuration customization in your market.

Here's the button on my 2016 RX 450h, which has a lock symbol where your finger's located in your pic. It would seem odd for Lexus to remove that functionality on later models without adding another button, but who knows... As other poster indicated, it wouldn't hurt to check with dealer.

Years ago, I used a Carista ODB2 module to configure various options, which would otherwise have required a trip to the dealer. You may want to try whatever similar gadget is currently available.

That's nice - it seems that it is indeed something that could be coded instead of physically changing the button.
And just to add, the finger on my picture is not covering the "2x" symbol, the car really does not have it. Out of curiousity, I went through all the RX ads in my country and it does seem that this close&lock button was introduced in EU with the facelift - no pre-facelift cars have it.
I will first check with the dealership if it's something they would be able to do and if not, will explore some other options myself.
