Quick update: Took my RX 350 to a local mechanic—they were able to temporarily get the head unit working after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. But it stopped again during their test drive.
They called the dealership and were told it needs a mandatory software upgrade that can only be done at the dealer.
Just wondering—does that sound accurate to anyone here? Any idea on cost, or whether there are alternative ways to do the upgrade outside of the dealership?
If it is the same update I did in March, that’s what stealersips like to say.
Files are available on Lexus download site once you register a login.
You download files to a USB flash drive.
As long as the display functions you are able to upgrade firmware yourself by navigating the menus.
Be sure the drive is plugged into a USB port under the console armrest not under the stereo.
Thanks for that information. Lexus corporate sent me a link l, but it seemed to be an update from Nov 2016.
Can youbshare the name of the update you used and the date it was issued?

search the site for your applicable update is best practice.
the video has the steps.
I don’t recall prior versus updated version I applied to my 21 450h.
Great information
do I have or need to do a update for my 2020 rx 350
it out of warranty:-(
it depends on what has been done prior.
check out the video to check your version.
mine is a 2021 that I purchased in March. It had updates that were not applied.

This car is my mothers and she took it to the dealership for the "firmware" update they spoke about on the phone. Well now they are saying that their is radio short and the whole thing needs to be replaced. $4K+ Labor. Ughhhhhhhh
Checked with a local Hi end Car Audio guy and he said he looked into it and did not find any options other then the factory radio replacement.
Found a company called Beat Sonic that says their unit require Bluetooth audio to be working on the factory radio, so this would not work either.
I would be happy with Carplay/Android Auto setup if possible, but would not want to lose backup camera or other features.
Is it possible to confirm the part and purchase from another dealer out of state cheaper and have local dealer install? I did this for my warranty with my LS back in 2018.
Hopefully someone can provide options that make sense.
TIA
