Default Toyota / Lexus Dash Cam

I just picked up a (new to me) 2019 RX 350 and want to get a dash cam installed ASAP as I feel vulnerable driving around without one. I have noticed that Toyota has these OEM dash cams available for the 2022+ models. Has anyone attempted to install the OEM 2022+ Toyota / Lexus Dash Cam on their 2016-2022 RX without having to cut wires? Ideally I would like to plug it into the mirror assembly and call it a day.
Any thoughts?

I read on this site some recommendations for Fitcamx and bought one last month for my 2024 ES350. It has a better resolution and lower cost than the Lexus dashcam and looks more like OEM than the OEM does. You can order it through Amazon, but it cost less direct from the Fitcamx website and either way it will ship from China. It took about a week with "express" shipping. Check out the website.

https://fitcamx.com/collections/fitcamx-for-lexus-rx

The Fitcamx housing replaces the stock plastic housing in the center of the windshield ahead of the mirror. While driving, you can barely see any of the bottom front bulge where the camera sits because the mirror hides it. The wiring is stuffed inside the housing and is invisible once installed. The Lexus dashcam is a separate plastic box that is added off to the left of center and partially blocks the driver's view ahead.

This dashcam only shows the view ahead and only records when the engine power is on. If you want recording while parked and/or recording out the back window, a rear camera and/or extra wiring has to be installed somehow. I did not do that.

If you do not make a mistake, and know what you are doing, it takes ten or fifteen minutes to install. I broke a tiny locating clip on the camera housing while trying to slide it in place. They sent a new housing at no charge, and I was able to transfer the camera and other parts to the new housing. I did not break anything doing the second installation and the dashcam works fine. Hope I never need it.

I bought a larger capacity micro SD card for it, but don't really know if it is actually going to prove useful.

Another vote for Fitcamx: OEM look, ease of installation, great quality.

After getting one for my RX, I ordered another (NX model) for my daughter, shipped to her on the East Coast. I planned to install it for her when I visited her a few weeks later. When she picked me up at the airport, I noticed that the camera had been already installed. She told me she'd installed it herself with the simple pry tool included with the camera.

Note that she's not a car person, and she didn't see me install the camera on the RX.

I also went with the Fitcamx. It’s been fine. Picture quality is good and it looks OEM.

Oh, don’t do like I did and forget to peel off the blue protective film that was on the camera lens. “Why is the video a tad fuzzy and tinted blue?”

Look at the pictures on the Fitcam site. They show Model A and B; it’s the shape of your existing overhead plastic piece, by the mirror.

One of the requirements when you place an order for a Fitcamx is that you email to their customer service pictures of the plastic housing that fits between your rear-view mirror and windshield. That requirement is on their website. I sent the pictures right after I placed the order. Otherwise, they will send you an email requesting the pictures. It saves everyone the aggravation of dealing with returning a wrong model.

Here are pictures of the stock plastic housing in my ES350 and the Fitcamx after installation.

email fitxcam i think i had problem with the trim they sent me that it got a gap or doesn't look right. after they ask you a few question and you sent them some picture they will know that if they sent you the wrong trim. in my case they sent me the wrong trim and they said sorry and sent me the correct one. after i got the correct one the installation was smooth no gap or fighting the trim to fit.
