Bluetooth started crackling all of a sudden.
Hello all.
Car is a 2010 rx350. Up until about 2 weeks ago my Bluetooth was working perfectly, but now has started having issues.
I didn’t change anything in the car, but the Bluetooth has now started crackling and breaking up. It connects fine, but when I make or receive a call it drops out every second or third word. If I disconnect the Bluetooth during the call and just use the phone, all is ok, so it’s not a reception issue….definitely Bluetooth.
I’ve tried completely wiping all phones from the car, but no joy. I’ve tried another phone, I’ve disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a few hours…..nothing seems to fix it.
Wondering if anyone has any ideas? Stuffed Bluetooth module?
Thanks!
Dave

My 2015 RX350 bluetooth started crackling about 8 months ago. Only happens with phone calls, not audio.
I've tried everything as well and even got a new battery in my Iphone. The dealer has no solutions. It is impossible to use bluetooth for calling because you can't hear the person on the other end.
would love a solution. I am currently looking to trade this car if I cannot find a solution. it's that bad!
My phone is an iphone 11, IOS16.1.2 I would say the issue started after an IOS update.

In the case of it happening after an iOS update, I would try a different phone. I would think it easier to swap a phone versus getting rid of the car. To experiment, I would make sure there is nothing else Bluetooth to the car such as an air tag or any other Bluetooth device. Even remove the Bluetooth pairing for your phone as a audio player, just Bluetooth your phone as a phone. It's possible that your phone is not liking the dual connection.
Thanks
I have tried my husbands phone. Same issue. I don't have any other blue tooth devices connected. I unpaired from the audio player and made a call. Still crackling.
The only thing I just discovered tonight that works is to have my Airpods in and make a call, no static or crackling. But I don't want to drive with an airpod, not safe.

So I finally tracked down the issue, after a LOT of diagnostic troubleshooting.
For me, the issue turned out to be with iPhone 11, from roughly iOS 16.1 onwards.
I narrowed the problem down via the following……
- Tried an iPhone 11 that was still on a much earlier iOS (15.X)….worked fine.
- Tried an old android phone I had lying around. Worked fine
- tried both my phone and my wife’s phone on 16.x plus iOS. Didn’t work
- Tried iPhone 12, 13 and 14 on varying iOS version (including 16.x plus)….all worked fine.
End conclusion. Bought a new iPhone 14 for my wife. Works perfectly fine.
issue seems to be confined to iPhone 11 on iOS 16.1 or later…..at least my findings.

I also have the same issue. My son connected his iPhone and it worked perfectly fine. Music plays absolutely fine. The only thing that doesn’t work is my iPhone. Tried on pairing and repairing deleted it which was a pain because I had to add the speed calls back in. Nothing seems to have worked I too, would love a solution.
