Hello all,
I'm new to this forum as well as a recent owner of a new-to-me 2010 RX 350, so this may be a dumb question but...I've read that some folks run their synthetic motor oil 10,000 miles or only change the oil once a year, but they change the filter after 5000 miles...I've not done my first oil change on this car ( I plan to do my own rather than visit the dealer) but I've been changing my own oil for many many many years...I always change both the filter AND the oil...but how can you change the filter and NOT the oil?...
Thanks in advance

I finding from this forum and other sources that the synthetic oil does not need to be changed so frequently. I am retired now and don't put alot of miles on my car and want to know what would be the best frequency for me but also, is the dealership still making that recommendation to be frugal, following old standard or just plain want me in there sooner than I need to be?
i run 10k intervals... i use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil and send an oil sample to Blackstone every oil change. on my last oil change with 9,935 miles on the oil, the results came back with ~6,800 miles of use. they suggested i run 12k miles on this next interval to test the longevity of it but then it screws up my oil change tracking. for reference the truck has 120k miles now...
I just changed the oil in the 2011 I bought
last oil change they did was a little over a year ago , they only drove it 2500 miles
some of the cleanest oil I’ve seen !
It actually is quite far but I decided not to go to the dealer any longer. The last event was being told that I needed a new drive belt which was fine 3 months prior. I took it elsewhere and they told me there was nothing wrong with it. That shop has just switched hands and they are starting to tell me I need to do a whole bunch of stuff now.
I will search again for someone I feel that I can trust.
The engine on my recently purchased 151K mi RX was serviced at the dealership so only got oil changes every 10K mi. The motor and dip stick have shellac. Glad to hear it does not hurt much of anything.
