Default Was I screwed over? Peeling paint on 2015

Hi everyone,

New to the forum and new to Lexus. We bought a 2015 RX350 CPO from Lexus Bridgewater (NJ) in 2018. This is what has started happening on different spots around the car. I’ve never seen this even on a 2007 Murano parked in the same type of environment. What is going on? Is there anything we can do?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

That is unusual and you should contact a Lexus dealer and maybe Lexus corporate about this paint peeling problem. Since it is CPO you should have some warranty coverage remaining.

I am not familiar with other complaints about this but that does not mean there have not been complaints. Try searching this forum and maybe Edmunds etc for other complaints about paint peeling.
Finally, what is the CarFax history on this vehicle? If it was in an accident and extensively repainted, that could explain the problem.

I don't think an accident car could be a CPO. I maybe wrong but you never know.

That's not right. I know many Lexus and Toyota made prior to 2009 had clear coat issues. Yours is paint chipping.

Is it just one panel? My suspicion is that the quarter panel belongs to another vehicle and it was painted over.

I would contact the sales person or used sales manager to see what they have to say.You can call Lexus too, but most likely they will tell you to go to Lexus dealership of your choice. You can look through your CPO contract about paint issues.

I'm pretty certain that's a poor respray of the panel. Lexus should sort it out if it was bought from them in the last year. Good luck

I don't know a lot about paint issues with cars, but my first instinct if it is just that one panel only.. is that it isn't the original panel and was somehow replaced and then painted incorrectly/poorly... now if widespread, I'd be wondering what is going on with the actual original paint and start poking around with dealer about what they have to say about that...

RXs are one of the most notorious cars for non reported accidents. If there’s no record of an accident it is still possible for it to be certified.

Get it inspected by a mechanic. Not even a mechanic, get the car inspected by a body shop. And see what they tell you.

My 2015 Rx350 the paint was doing the same thing on the rear deck below the window and is also a CPO. Took it to the dealer and talked to the service manager. Lexus paid for the deck to be repainted. Now makes me wonder how long to keep the car. The body shop made a commit that he has seen this before on the 2015.
