Default RX350 with Leak in hatch. Problem Solved... Maybe

After a down pour I noticed some water on my passenger side hatch. Luckily I had weather tech mats, which kept the water from soaking into the carpet on the floor.
I removed the black trim around the hatch to find some poorly designed plastic clips with a thin rubber gasket. This is the only thing that seems to be plugging a hole that allowed water to come into the hatch. One at the top which was the one causing my issue. Two on the side.
I silicon the holes and after a heavy shower no water. Hopefully this helps someone if they have the same issue
If your getting water in this area I would also check roof rack holes.
Also I am not sure if the sun roof drains to the back. Maybe someone can clarify if it does.

thanks

Hi, just found your thread as I am having the same issue on driver side. I check under the black plastic and see the same plastic clip in the picture. I am having difficulty removing the black plastic and the clip. do you need to remove anything else to remove those? and for the clip itself, do you need to remove it to put silicon in? how did you remove the clip?

You need to check the rear sunroof drains as they may be another leak source.
The rear sunroof drains go through the sides of the rear hatch cargo area. Remove the side panels and you will see them. That is the best way to get at them and clear them.
There is another thread with photos of it. They separated the drain hose where sections of it come together to insert weed wacker line and clear the drains. FYI if is almost impossible to get at the rear sunroof drains via the sunroof opening. Locating the exit point is also difficult.

Thank you. I will need to check that if my problem still persist.

I have now silicon both the roof rack hole and the plastic clip hole. will keep it a few days and test it with water hose. Hopefully I don't need to go through the sunroof drain issue.

by the way, here is the place where the water is leaking from. It is on driver side where the tail gate motor is connected to the rear hatch.

That video leak appears similar to the issues in the hatch motor leak thread I posted. Which indicates your driver side rear sunroof drain as the problem.

I edited my post to separate the links so you can get to them separately.

I'm happy to say that my problem is now fixed. Glad that I don't need to go through the drainage hose. Thank you for all the help.
