Several Questions from Austin, TX RX350 Owner (Android Head Unit)
My first time posting to the forum, but wish I had come across it 2 months back after I ordered my Android Head unit.
I saw several of my questions but didn't quite catch the answers.
Overall very satisfied, I have the joystick where you can use the original system , I actually have mine go to original screen by default. then switch.
I have the 12.3 inch screen , I will have to use the Fake Android app and i noticed one person had CPZ.... guessing they are from play store... maybe sideloads?
Is anyone on record of actually getting a full refund from AliExpress should it be spec'd different than advertised?????
OMG getting the harness connection into the Nav unit , 3 days of frustration and the pic will illustrate how much of the car i disassembled.
Additionally I didn't see anyone comment on the ability to have a data sim.... The advert indicated it will not work in US , but it appears to work at LTE speeds but not 5G.
However the top priority is having incoming / outgoing calls route through Lexus vehicle vs. the CarPlay when it is an actual cell call.
A.) How do you get incoming calls to route to Lexus OEM Bluetooth, When Android Auto is connecting via Bluetooth , will simply using USB connection for AA accommodate.
B.) The CarPlay Navigation , Teams Calls go through the crappy external speaker. Is there a setting to route that audio to through car. Or is it possible to simply splice into the center speaker
C.) The unit came with external mic... I have it plugged in but it doesn't work well... It is a plug though , has anyone used a higher quality mic vs. the provided one with improved results.
AND Salimshah , I live between 183 and MoPac so I am happy to meet you for coffee or buy you lunch. I live/'work in the same area.
Set to go to original OEM system... stretches original resolution. Original Reverse camera bridged with supplied adapter harness
Specs, I am interested to see how Fake Android confirms this .... If fake I am probably SOL as i can't imagine they will refund unless forced by AlliExpress Unit boots to this mode. OS and Version Information
I received my unit today. On Thursday, I will leave the car at my mechanic so that he can install the new multimedia system and perform other maintenance. I will try to share updates on Friday!
And I have a quick question. A few users mentioned that the quality of the microphone supplied by Navirider is awful, and someone even found a way to bypass the audio and use the original microphone for calls. I guess there is not much sense in installing the Navirider mic, right? Or am I missing something?
I'm perfectly fine with living without the phone calls in the car.
The toughest part is routing the mic wire. I routed the mic wire and left the dangling on the unit side and tucked in the mic underneath the side facia plate. Later I realized that the mic is needed for SIRI so I plugged the unit side and stuck the mic in the space 1/4 panel glass.
Thinking ahead ... if you do not have sharp turns in the wire and do not attach it along the way, you can tie a string to the jack and pull the wire out, leaving the string in the route the wire was and then use it to pull in a replacement mic-wire.
Salim
PS: To route the mic wire, start with the mic as the fixed end and work the wire to the unit.
Here is an update on my Navirider unit. I got the unit installed on Thursday. My mechanic did most of the work, but I had to contact Navirider support to resolve a couple of issues. Nothing critical, though.
Today, I was able to make it fully functional! Everything seems to be working well, and I have access to the original Lexus multimedia.
Pros:
- The unit loads quite fast. The initial load isn't as fast as the original multimedia, but it's around 12-15 seconds. I believe the
from YouTube waits around 25-30 seconds before his unit boots up;
- I haven't tested all the features yet, but CarPlay connects relatively fast, and it even works well with 2 phones (both my wife and I use the car). Already tested Goole Maps, Waze, Youtube Music. All of those worked like a charm!
- The unit's quality is not bad. The display is massive and bright, but it complements the car's interior nicely, and it sits in its spot quite firmly.
Cons:
- The biggest grudge that I have so far is that I don't really see the park assist little popup if I'm in Drive or Neutral. But it does work as expected while reversing. Maybe there is some setting to tweak? Will double-check with the Navirider support.
- Joystick works with the new head unit, but using it is torture. It always goes to the wrong spot (there is no such an issue with the original multimedia)
I will try to share more details once I spend a bit more time with the new infotainment screen.

How reliably does it switch to reverse view camera? In my hybrid I can be in R within 3 sec of Ready (start equivalent).
How reliably does it switch out of Reverse camera view and get to carPlay screen?
Any info that is lost/hidden as CarPlay takes over? [overlay]
How reliably does it switch to reverse view camera? In my hybrid I can be in R within 3 sec of Ready (start equivalent).
It works similarly to the native head unit. When I put the car into Reverse, it takes up to 1 second to display the rear space on the screen. That said, if I turn on the engine and don't wait until the unit boots up fully and start reversing, the screen will remain blank and show nothing. Apart from that, I haven't run into any other problems.
How reliably does it switch out of Reverse camera view and get to carPlay screen?
When I go from Drive to Reverse, Google Maps/Waze disappears, and the music stops playing. The map view is back pretty much instantly once the Drive mode is on again.

I haven't been able to bring the Park Assist pop-up back when the car is in Drive, unfortunately. Also, when I increase the volume, I believe nothing is shown on the new screen.
Also, after using it for another week, the wireless connection isn't as smooth as I initially thought. Maybe it is because my wife also started connecting to CarPlay, and the unit is confused when both of us are in the car?
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the result. Absolutely love the big screen and G Maps navigation
I decided to publish one more comment after another month of use. All in all, I'm still happy that I got the Navirider unit. I did not spot any significant issues with the car or the unit itself, but the wireless connection bug me. This device doesn't work very well with two separate phones. So, if I need to drive somewhere alone and previously the car was driven by my spouse, connecting the Carplay may take a while, and from time to time, I even need to go to the Bluetooth settings and forget the device, which is a bit frustrating.
Maybe some other Navirider users have faced similar issues and found a way to make wireless connections quicker and more stable?

Well ,the GROM VL2 has it issues also. I notice that the GROM like to freeze up(blank screen) every so often that requires a restart(pulling the power cable). I may have to install an inline power toggle switch to easily just turn it on and off without pulling the power cable as that my VL2 sits in my center console.
So none of the aftermarket Android upgrades are perfect it seems.

Your Navirider looks fundamentally similar to the screen I installed in my RX. I've only paired it with one iPhone, but CarPlay has been working great.
I am soon to be the owner of a 2013 RX450h with nav option and square mouse.
I think I prefer an option that replaces the screen for more resolution and touchscreen.
I've looked at some branded options like Carlinklife, Autoabc, Lexion,
Also seeing a bunch of options on Amazon and eBay with no clear branding.

My $146 Amazon solution. Installed myself in about 1.5 hours (including watching a couple of youtube videos). Not perfect, but works fine ...
cost only $110 (after applying the $10 coupon). I think I would like this even better, as it has a 350° Rotatable Camera 4K Dash Cam.
Basically, what I search for is: 11.26" screen, and having the base extends across the entire length of the unit (for the aesthetic appearance).

Does it work with the RX's climate controls - the screen to turn on/off AC?
And does it work the other RX controls the OEM screen shows us, radio, options like setting collision detection, maintenance screens, etc?
