Question Front badge/emblem replacement

Hi All

The front lexus badge/emblem on my 2012 RX350 F-Sport needs replacing - the mounting lugs snapped off at some point so it was just held in by the bottom tab (heard it rattling). So I went to the local dealer (where I bought the RX) and they quoted me AUD$1668 (about USD$1200) - outrageously expensive for a bit of plastic - their argument was that it sits in front of the radar cruise control and is a special plastic! The part number is 5314130510 - TBH I'm not even sure they quoted the correct part number.

Sounds like pure BS to me but I know nothing about radar - anyone have any insight?

I just pulled the part off the vehicle and the part number is different to what the dealer quoted - 53141-48050 - however it seems that this part was replaced by 53141-30510 - so I guess it's the correct part. Still can't figure out why it's so expensive!

The part number 53141-30510 retails for 487.78 . the complete grille assembly with the emblem retails for 940.93 plus 1.8 hours of labor to
remove bumper cover to install . Thats probably what they gave you an estimate for . If you have the pre collision system thats the parts it calls for . There could be be a way to reattach the emblem you have , not sure through .

The price quoted was for the part only... I asked because I though he had quoted for the install given the price! I will just use some silicon to "glue" it back on - I did some work on restoring it (it was crazed and scratched) last night, wet sanded and buffed it, sprayed with acrylic clear coat and it looks almost brand new again. I'll keep trying to find a new or near new one to replace it but not going to pay a stupid amount for it.
