Manually open trunk

Just reach for the release push rubber section on the ledge that houses the license plate light bulbs. When you manually release the trunk ht hatch does not open under its power, but needs to be lifted without much effort.

ps: Many folks fault Lexus fro not opening the hatch when released manually and it seems it is this way in Lexus just for you.

My niece is a Benz fan and I am Lexus bigot and she would say "Uncle you always defend Lexus even when they messed up on the hatch auto-raise". I would say use the key fob from a distance, and there is safety built in Lexus, so that you may not accidentally get hit by the rising hatch. Now I will add your real world situation.
Incidentally. if you just discovered the rubber release, feel for a spot next to it. You can use that to lock and unlock the RX... it may not be in all models.

You can open your rear hatch WITHOUT lifting it manually from using the buttons on the hatch door itself (not the remote, not the interior button)? What year is yours, Takeshi?

When I press that button above the license plate the hatch opens and the motor lifts it up automatically. 2015 RX350.
Maybe there is a setting for this in the vehicle configuration menu?

My button above the license plate does different things on different days. Sometimes it raises the hatch and sometimes it unlocks the doors on the first push and raises the hatch on a second push - yes, i'm being careful not to push the button with the raised nub that just unlocks the doors.

UPDATE: Just took my 2010 to the dealer. Manual says the one-button lift (page 625) is an option that can only be changed at the dealer. And...it is! Took 10 minutes for them to hook up a computer to it, and change it from "no" to "yes", (He may have meant from MANUAL to AUTOMATIC?) according to the tech. Super simple. No fee to do it. Now, I just touch the lift handle and it opens by itself, just like I wanted.

Sorry for the delayed response. Our is a 2015 450h but the year doesn't really matter. This was also one of the Lexus Personalized Settings on our 2008 400h but power back door assist wasn't enabled on our 2008.

BTW 2016 and newer RX can set the maximum height of the hatch to accommodate low doors and petite drivers.

Hi Folks,
just joined this forum. Mine is 2012 RX 350 n i reside in Singapore. If i read correctly, the rear tailgate will NOT open automatically when u manually press the release button from outside the tailgate? It only unlocks but must open manually?
If it can be open electronically from the outside using the release, how do you program it?
Thanks everyone.

My 2010 I had to take to the dealer to do it for me. Cost was free. Took 10 minutes. In my mind, the factory setting when new should be set to "open with release button on tailgate automatically", not manual lift. Who is gonna say "No. I prefer to yank it up by hand."?

Anyone who ever parks in parkades or backs into parking spots against walls. Having that thing suddenly run away and grind itself up a wall or ram against a low concrete brace is a disaster. It's so well balanced and easy to lift by hand anyway.
