HID head lamp upgrade
Hey all, just got a new 2015 RX 350 with 35,000 miles. Comfort and Premium packages installed along with Nav, 19" wheels etc. My previous RX (2009) had every single package and option including AFS. I loved that car, but it done went and got old on me.
The head lamps on my 2009 were incredible. I immediately noticed a difference on the 2015. The 2015 is slightly more "yellow-ish" and does not have the clarity. I read around a bit and assume that my 2009 had HID Xenon and the 2015 doesn't.
I'm awaiting a callback from my dealer service and parts dept. but wanted to get a little info up front.
Has anyone upgraded their own lamps on a Gen 3? do you need additional ballasts or controllers, or is it just replacing the lamp units themselves?

You could have either HID or Xenon. You need to inspect them to determine which one you have. The link below is a forum supporter and has excellent lighting products and shows what fits what.

Congratulations on the new purchase!
Headlights (low beam) come as Halogen or HID (for the non-hybrid.)
If it's HID (which also called Xenon) you will need to replace the light bulbs and that should correct the problem. The stock light tone is 4300k and it's about $60 for the pair (genuine) but I would suggest to try the 6000k as it's much brighter and "whiter"? There are many on Amazon that sell for around $25 a pair.
If it's Halogen, replace them with a good quality LED light. They will look much sharper and the light beam should be well-distributed when you go with a reliable brand.
Take pictures when you can of the Headlights to determine the type.
Cheers!
