Smart Key Features!
Hi Guys, just picked up a mint 2011 Vermillion (maroon) RX with cream interior. The previous owner was a fastidious old man. He has set up the smart entry system to only work via the key fob buttons, so no door handle sensitivity and then when starting the vehicle he has also set it up to only start with foot on the brake then swiping the key transponder in-front of the start stop button almost like a 90s immobilizer before you press it again to start the engine. It's tedious and annoying and I'm wondering how I can return to factory settings?
no way of doing this in the on-board computer.
thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new car. There is quite a long list of customizable features (Pg. 836 in my 2014 manual). I believe he had the "smart access system with push button start" turned off. On my car you can change some of the personalized settings through the display, but others you have to go to the dealer to have them adjust. If that is the case, I'd recommend taking a look at the other personalized settings and thinking about what else you'd like them to change while you're there. Most of the time you'll want to just stick with the default though.
I'm not sure. Maybe someone esle can chime in if they know. I don't like going to the dealer either... maybe worth a call to a private mechanic to see if they have access to those feftures. I bet a shop that specializes in Toyota would. But maybe someome here knows if the battery would do it, as you do just need it set back to the default.
On my 2015 you can turn the "Smart Access System" Via the audio display, not the info screen on the instrument panel.
Make sure you go into the car settings menu on the audio display.
Of course the 2011 may be different
