I recently bought 5 body seals. That is all 4 door seals that go against the body and the hatch seal. They are all new from Lexus. There is a peace of foam in one spot of the door seals that I don't know what it does, and am looking for any help in the matter. I tried talking to the techs at my local Lexus dealer, but they didn't know. Hear is three photos of it. I didn't take it out of the plastic, so if the photos aren't clear enough, I can retake them with the seals out of the plastic. Thanks for all your help.
I think that’s just to mark the starting point where you install on the vehicle. The corresponding seal on the opposite side should have that foam piece in the same position on the seal. I Replaced door trim rubber seals on one of my cars many years ago and they had a cellophane tape as I recall as the starting point mark. That’s just my wild guess without having it in my hands.
the only thing that i could add is that sometimes the seal becomes 'flat ' and that point may be the cause of some wind noise. The foam inside helps the rubber form becoming overly compressed and not creating a good seal.Do they all have this piece of foam? If so' i would think , like someone else said, it is there to indicate specific step or point.
Thanks for all the help. I did go to a local body shop that told me the foam pice and the cord that its attached to is just part of the manufacturing process and gets removed before use. I guess it's there just to hold open a grove or something. Any how, I have a cupel of photos that are a little clearer. Thanks again for all the help. Now I just need to start removing all the panels and such to change them. I was hoping that all I would need to do is remove the sill plates, but I was told that I have to remove a lot more and bull down on the head liner. So much work for getting rid of squeaking seals.
Thanks for all the help Salim. I was doing good on the trim removal until I got to the grab handle that needs to get removed to pull down on the head liner. Read the manual on it, but still can't figure out how remove it. I really don't want to brake anything, as that would defeat the purpose of changing the seals out to make for a quiet car. I am hoping someone knows the truck to it. I was only able get the caps loose. Thanks for any help.
I have yet to take any panel apart, but search the net and you may find some description or video.
sometimes after removing the screws one has to slide the handle and at times it is just stuck. <= Don't take my word as I have not removed the panels on 3rd gen.
Sorry for the confusion, I probably didn't call it by the correct name. It's the handle that is above all 4 doors on the head liner. I didn't fined anything overly useful in a google search. I do know that it's just clipped in.
It amazes me how I get stuck on the little things, but doing actual mechanical work I seam to do just fine. I really thought this would be an easy process, I guess thats why people want over $400 to install thees seals.
