Cool 2010 rx350 150k miles for $12.5k, am I crazy to buy?

Have been looking for close to bluebook value rx350 2010 up for under 15k for while. Found a 2010 rx350 150kmiles for private sale. Based on the location of this vehicle and discussion with the owner its definitely 80% hwy miles. Interior is good condition and its black with grey interior. Will need new tires before winter and in the short term full service and brakes pads. Am I crazy to buy a car with so many miles? Is that a decent price?

Thanks

The price seems like it might be a touch high but that depends on what area of the country you are in and the trim packages that are on the RX.

I would estimate that your are purchasing the car with 1/2 the useful life expended for about 1/4 the new price. From everything I have read the RX's are well engineered and well made and will last quite long if you keep up on maintenance. If you were considering a Camero with 150K on it I would say you are crazy but considering the life expectancy of an RX I would consider it a sound purchase.

I purchased a Chevy crew cab Duramax with 180K on it about 4 years ago... I am still very very pleased with this purchase. I forsee the Duramax engine and Allison transmission reaching 300K pretty easily. The Chevy's weakness is the ***** and controls... when they break I will fix them.

You mentioned the word "winter". So I would have a pro look at the car for any rust. All those plastic under body panels must be completely removed (which is easy to do, just time consuming) to expose anything might be concerning for rusts.

Offer $10,000 and see what happens, not saying the owner will take $10K but maybe he'll meet you halfway or lower which will help to offset the brakes, tires and service you mentioned.

If the RX has been properly maintained 150K is not too crazy, so ask to see any service records.. As someone else mentioned have it inspected for rust and at the very least have it put on a lift to see what it looks like underneath. Good Luck.

I would try to save more to get something with less miles and walked away. Not to bash on Lexus quality, but 150k mi is still a lot of miles, even if this had comprehensive maintenance done with records.

Welcome to CL, seancul!!

150K on a 2010 is high, but not necessarily worrisome, depending on it's condition and how well it's been maintained. For context, read through this thread to see how high of a mileage point others are obtaining on their Gen3's... it might just increase your comfort level a bit.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...heir-gen3.html

Additional context... here's where I've put my money where my mouth is. In the past twelve months, I've purchased a '99 4Runner (3.4 V6) with 225K, a '06 4Runner (4.0 V6) with 210K, and a '06 Subaru Outback (2.5 boxer) with 225K, and not a single issue with any of them outside of normal wear items. That same 12 month period also included the purchase of our current '10 RXh with only 72K miles, but I was willing to consider as high as 150K when I was looking; I only preferred and chose the lower mileage option in order to ensure a better conditioned interior because it is my wife's vehicle and I want to spoil her as much as possible. I'm also pushing 292K on my '02 F250 diesel (I know, it's a diesel) with only normal wear items having been addressed over the pat 11 years.

Well-cared for high mileage vehicles are some of the best pearls in life because you can take advantage of the impact that high mileage has on "impression" and "curb appeal" to get exceptionally good purchase values! That is especially true when doing a private sale! Just be diligent for research and inspection before biting on that particular bullet. I've only had one bad experience with that approach in the past 11 years, and that is out of 15 different vehicle purchases where about 10 of them have been for vehicles in excess of 200K miles.

If that is a good price or not depends on the options and maintenance history. I've wrenched on my own cars for years, so I am not scared of higher mileage vehicles, especially a Lexus.

However, in my opinion, I'd say the price is a bit high for the miles.

I bought the wife a '11 RX last month with 84k miles for 15k (not including taxes) out the door. FWD, no navigation, no radar cruise control or whatever, no rain sensing wipers. But it was CLEAN, had new 19" tires, and runs like a top. Wasn't looking for a Lexus, but couldn't pass it up.

That is a really good deal, sir. The '10 RXh I purchased last August had 72K miles, but it also had all of the options yours did not have, was perfectly clean, and my out the door prices was almost $23K. Granted, I purchased from a BMW dealership, but even though it was on the high side, it was lower than most in my area at the time. The time of year can also play a big role in sales price, and I've found that early summer is probably the lowest price time of the year for higher mileage used vehicles, but you have to be really careful because most of the "better" ones were just sold to parents who are buying for their graduating kids.
