Hi, we just bought a 2012 RX350, our first Lexus. It seems to me that when I brake downhill then let up on the brake that it stays partially engaged? Is there some kind of downhill auto braking? Or is some kind of engine braking being engaged? Or am I just imagining it?
Thanks, Chris

When you release the brake (take the foot off), the pedal swings back due to spring but the pushed out fluid returns due to 'run out' [the wobble in spinning rotors push the pistons back in] and fluid travels back to the master cylinder. If the fluid is old it may not travel back freely. I would suggest having the brake fluid purged.

I don't know about the 2012 but my 06 SC430 and my 15 RX have the feature that when you are going down hill and you touch the brake it downshifts to help slow the vehicle without using the brake pedal. Do your RPMs go up or do they stay the same?Originally Posted by Chri3s

the computer does try to know what you are doing so it should stay in gear if it believes you are riding the brakes and doing a descent.
however you should see it in the tach and see the tach stay in gear at a higher rpm. if you tap the accelerator the transmission will shift and the tach drop.
this could be independent of a brake issue which you might have too
