Default Power Tailgate / Liftgate not power closing automatically

Hello,

Tried searching all over but could not find the answer,

2013 LEXUS RX 350 F Sport

My Power Tailgate opens automatically using the remote or the button next to steering wheel but no longer closes using the remote or that button. It only gives 2 beeps!

Tried toggling the button in the glove box but nothing. Any one ever been through this and fixed it? No warranty so would rather no go to dealer!

Thanks

Does it close OK using the button in the tailgate, or do you have to close it manually? If it does work with the button, I would think that possibly a setting had changed.I think ours only does 1 beep when closing. I would think that 2 beeps might be telling you it thinks something might be in the way, or stopping it

I would still consider taking it to the dealer, but I'm a horrible diagnostician. They won't charge you if it's something simple, and if something is really is broken they'll tell you what to look for.

Hey Woodrow, No the button on the tailgate does the same thing, only 2 beeps and nothing happens, like I said, all functions of opening the tailgate work, and all closing function require manual closing!

Our 2010 RX350 started with a similar problem, and deteriorated over a few months to the point where the liftgate wouldn't open, just two beeps. Diagnosed as complete failure of the motor assembly, a $1500 repair covered under the Lexus Extended Warranty. Dealer said they had only seen it once before. Have your dealer look at it, it won't get any better. Not sure an independent shop is the best way to go in this situation.

We are having this same problem 2013 RX 450h. 2 beeps and then reverts to manual mode. This is regardless of what button and options are selected (dashboard, remote keyfob, tailgate exterior buttons, tailgate interior close button. The tailgate also isn't fully staying open, it's drooping down over time. Of course every time we go to the dealer it seems to behave. It seems like what was posted by Evitzee right. It just seems to get worse. It does seem to occasionally work on inclines/declines and when going to the dealer.

Follow-up -- dealer replaced the electric tailgate mechanism & the tailgate struts under CPO warranty. Since then it has worked great.

Default Tailgate Parts Replaced

According to the Dealer paperwork the following parts were replaced below. You can find the parts online, just putting down the stock price from the paperwork.

If you've replaced the motor (assuming same sub assembly below) try the shocks? The online prices were pretty good (vs retail) and it looks like there's a new part number for the shock which replaces the old (when you search for it you'll see). What's interesting is when I search for the shocks now, it says there's a new part #. Maybe that means there could have been a weakness in those original shock part #'s.

Good luck!
  • 68910-48030 UNIT ASSY, POWER $789
  • 68950-0E030 STAY ASSY, BACK D $194
