Default OEM Remote Starter

Hello

I'm looking at getting a remote starter for the 2011 Lexus RX350. Anyone have any feedback on the OEM remote starter from Lexus? How is the range on this?

Any feedback on good aftermarket versions for this vehicle?

Thanks

A lot depends on your goals.
If you're OK with starting your vehicle when you stand right next to it, then OEM remote starter will do. It will work off the existing key fob and will suffer from the lack of range.
You can pay for RES+ services, which leverages cell communication to send commands to and from the vehicle.

Or you can get a decent aftermarket unit. Professional installation required.
2-way remotes will hit all the way to the end of the parking lots and then some.
I'm not sure how it would integrate with the smart key entry when the vehicle is started.

Hi Lex4wife. We have a few threads on remote start including this one. You can do a search on RES/RES+ and alternatives.

Thanks..will check it out. If I do decide to by the OEM version, does a dealer have to install it? Is there anything else required? Anyone know the labour time?

I suggest checking with your dealer. Sometimes they have specials on installation. At least mine does. Instructions were available on the Sewell website, since shut down. From what I recall, it isn't overly complicated and takes maybe an hour or so. The biggest part is taking apart the glove compartment to install the ECU. That's for RES. RES+ requires an antenna. It also has annual service charges too. But I'm not sure if it's available in Canada. The dealer should be able to tell you.

i have the basic oem starter and it works great for my needs. range is fine for me personally but others like to start it up 3 miles away. ive started it up 30-40 feet away no issues and thats perfect for me.

RES+ has much more range and can be controlled by phone but the $65 a year turns me off. if you want to go that route just go for viper.

if you have any questions let me know

I have 4 Compustars in my vehicles Lexus included with Drone module (iphone integrated)...start from anywhere..two way so it reports back..dealer installed..highly recommended. I strongly suggest staying away from the OEM starter if range is needed
