Default Side Mirror nightmare?

Today while driving, someone kicked up a huge piece of rubber from the road and it hit my drivers side mirror, only damaging the "sandwich" of plastic closest to the body of the car. Lexus does not sell this piece (of course) and the entire mirror assembly is about 650 bucks.

Has anyone had any experience trying to find this part from a scrap yard or used on ebay or might someone have these 2 pieces of plastic from an old mirror by chance? Any help is much appreciated as paying 650 for 2 pieces of plastic is just making me sick.

By the time I went back to get the outer shell it had been run over

If no luck at the scrap yard, a low cost solution is affix it with some construction glue then wrap it with matte (carbon fiber or black) vinyl wrap and do the same on the other side.

You could try sending this eBay seller a PM on eBay.

He might have a solution.

As an unrelated question does anyone know if you can upgrade to blind spot package? DIY? Dealer? Cost? Worth?

I think you will have to buy a complete mirror. Probably some on eBay for $300 - $400.

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) is a lot more than the flashing icon in the side mirrors. It also includes radar sensors under the corners of the rear bumper guard and an electronic control unit (ECU) inside the car that processes the information to translate objects in your blind spot to an illuminated icon in the mirror and flashes the icon when you signal a lane change with an object detected.

A few others have asked about upgrading to this (and other packages); however once they investigate the almost universal conclusion is that it's better to put it on the list for your next new car.

I made such a list during the 11 years I owned by 2001 RX 300 and that's why my 2013 is a loaded RX450h which I custom-ordered. It has every option available except the radar cruise control and rear seat entertainment system. Those two options just didn't make sense for my driving habits and lack of rear set passengers respectively.

A good body shop may be able to fix the piece

Almost all of the plastic retainer tabs broke off when it was hit. on the reverse side where to the plastic protrudes it is flattened. I'm not sure it is repairable.

Yeah I saw that one but really waiting for a "parts" mirror for the drivers side to come for sale. There is a perfect listing on ebay for what I need it is 89 dollars but Right side (I guess not quite perfect)

In my search for other items came across tlsautorecycling.com where they're parting out a couple rx350's. I didn't use them, know nothing about them, but might have what you're looking for. Good luck. Caveat emptor.

Travis, have you discussed it with your insurance company? It's not the kind of thing that should raise your rates, give it a try. Then get it fixed like new .
