Default Can I Still Get Complimentary Service?

Question for you all: If the second complimentary service went unused, will Lexus honor another?

A family member of mine purchased a 2013 Lexus RX350 w/ Nav last September and was informed of the two complimentary services. However, she lives 2.5 hours from the nearest Lexus dealer. When the 5k light came on, I took it in for her and got the free service. However, she didn't alert me when the 10k light came on and took it to the local Toyota dealer, where she was charged upwards of $120 for a synthetic oil change and tire rotation. Now that it's due for a 15k service soon, should I make the trek to the Lexus dealer in hopes of them validating the unused complimentary service, or just continue to take it to Toyota? Thanks.

At my dealership (Pleasanton, CA), the second free service is supposed to be used in the FIRST YEAR or at the annual service. They mentioned this to me when I brought my car in after one year. I can't remember; it was a month or two after the one year point. They did the service for free. I think they have some discretion on this requirement. You should call the service department and just ask them ... each dealership might have slightly different policies.

Since the oil change is only done every 10k miles, the 15k service is just a tire rotation. May not be worth a long drive to get this done. Just have the tire rotation done locally. I would call and ask if they would do another oil change for free. If so, then it would be worth going in and getting the free oil change and tire rotation.

@ Raoul, less than $100 if you have a Toyota service department do it. ( i remember $87.00 when i had it done to my 2011 RX350)
( part of the the service is tire rotation, visual inspection of brakes, fluid etc)

@ Brooks2IS, sorry but it has to be done at 10,000 miles or anywhere close to that.
you might try to talk to your Service Advisor, anyway 15,000 miles is mostly visual inspection
and tire rotation.
it's the same with Toyota which gives a 25,000miles/2 yr Toyotacare service,
if you miss an appointment, you can't use it for the next one.

The dealership in my area will not honor it. My friend was unable to get his second free service because the timing was off past the year mark. He only drives his car very little so the mileage wasn't at 10K yet so he waited. Big mistake.

service intervals at the 5K mark which do not include an oil change, but only tops off fluids and rotate tires is between $100 and $200 dollars. The oil change is more like $300 but includes the "other" add ons, not just the oil change

It obviously varies with the dealer; my 20,000 was $127 at Lexus dealer; he is very sensible on prices!!

15,000 mile service for RX350 as posted on Lexus.com PDF:
❑ Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
❑ Replace Smart Key battery
❑ Reset maintenance reminder light
❑ Re-torque nuts and bolts of drive shaft (AWD)
❑ Rotate tires
❑ Visually inspect brake pads, calipers and rotors
❑ Check installation of driver’s floor mat
❑ Road-test vehicle
❑ Inspect the following:
__ Axle shaft boots
__ Ball joints and dust covers
__ Body
__ Brake lines and hoses
__ Engine coolant (see page 70)
__ Exhaust pipes and mountings
Note: If 0W-20 oil was not used at last oil change, or if you drive primarily under certain special operating
conditions, you should also replace the engine oil with 0W-20 oil and replace the oil filter. See page
44 for conditions that apply. Some conditions require additional maintenance. See below.
If you drive primarily under any of these special operating conditions, perform
these additional items:
Driving off-road, on dirt roads or on dusty roads:
❑ Inspect engine air filter
❑ Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis
Towing a trailer, using a car-top carrier or heavy vehicle loading:
❑ Replace rear differential oil (AWD)
❑ Replace transfer case oil (AWD)
❑ Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis
__

Oil Change cost? My dealers list price is $160 (Pleasanton, CA). But, there are managers specials and they have been typically in the $90 - $100 range. Many dealerships have an email promotions list that you can subscribe to and get these reduced charges. You can also just call in and ask. You typically also get the multi point check and tire rotation for this price. It is an OK price; given their overhead.
