Hey, right now i have 2010 RX350 AWD, i am thinking about switching it for 2014 or 2015 model during either August or November specials. I got no issues with my current one, its just that as time goes the value drops, so i was thinking it wouldnt hurt to re-finance a newer model. I just was at the dealership last weekend, they said theyd give 32-33k for my rx, which isnt bad, put it as a trade-in and add 5 grands on top, financing for 5 years with 0.9% makes it pretty easy to pay out the new model. Would it be a good move and which model, 2014 for cheaper cuz its a year "older" or just go with 2015? Need some feedback

 

32-33K as the trade in? That's very good for a ~ 5-year old RX! Plus 0.9% financing is excellent too but is it for both the '14 and '15? Wish we had these deals in Canada.

See what deal they would give you between the '14 and the '15. If the '14 is not at least $2K cheaper for the same equipment as an offset for depreciation, I'd stick with the '15. No major differences between the two model years except for the Cabernet red interior option available in the '15 on the F-Sport only.

Just in case you're not aware, the '16 RX will be a new full-model redesign if that matters to you. Should be out in about 1 year from this time.

 

I just finished signing a lease for a 2015 RX 350 F Sport. I was shopping for a 13-14 F Sport, but the prices I was getting were either exact or close to what I would pay for the 15 - sometimes more than the 15. So, I went ahead and jumped on the 15, but of course, situations differ. Just call around and get numbers.

 

If the interest rate is lower, then it may make some financial sense.
In reality, you need to take the interest you will pay in a year, add in depreciation your ride will have, throw in maintenance costs, such as new tires, and that will get you amortization amount. Compare your current ride with the new ride. Considering the price drop is pretty steep in the first years of ownership, it is usually not a wise decision. However, if it will cost you only $5K to trade-up and will lower the interest, it may not be such a bad deal.

 

That trade-in price sounds good. I just leased a 2014, and the residual value after 36 months is set at ~$27K.

 

Yurka, I wouldn't wait until the August and December sales. If the dealer can give you $32-33K for your RX and lower payments on a new RX, then go ahead and do it now. There's no guarantee you'll get the same deal in a few months.

 

YEP, the time to act is NOW, with the 2015's out now and the 2014 stock dwindling, it is likely come November there will be ZERO (new) 2014's available.

I bought a nearly fully loaded RX350 on Easter Sunday and paid (about) $42.5k for a MSRP of (about) $49.7k.

So if you could get $33k trade-in on a $42k purchase for a 2014, I would go for it...!

 

Isn't it still more economical to continue driving your existing 2010 model for another 10 years so you wouldn't have to pay or finance another 5 grand to switch?

 

The discussion about economy or practicality went out the door the second we've decided to get a " luxury" vehicle.
I can argue that a Kia or a Hyundai CUV can get us from point A to B and cost a lot less than a LeXus.

 

I think the salesman gave you a verbal hi-ball to pique your interest, then when the pen meets the paper, the car will cost more and the trade-in will be less. Please let us know what happens.
